I am an LPCC who works with both teen and adult clients.
I am passionate about making sure people know they don’t have to deal with all of life’s twists and turns on their own. Whether you’re experiencing a particularly stressful season or you’re looking to heal from something you’ve been carrying for a long time, I believe we can work through it together. I provide a non-judgmental, relaxed environment in which you can unpack what’s on your mind, explore unhelpful thought/behavior patterns, and grow in your confidence to challenge them.

My work history involves child & adolescent in-patient settings, 17 years as the director of a University counseling center, and consultation for an adoption support ministry.
My experience is working extensively with youth and young adults in the area of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, self-harm, PTSD, adoption support, family dynamics and communication offering solution focused techniques to bring about positive change and healing. As an attachment theorist I value practical, experiential discovery of the things that hold people back from optimal functioning in life. I seek to join with people by being creative in the work we do together to meet clients where they are at using the talents and strengths he or she has to create successful steps forward.

Megan’s ideal client is a child, adolescent , partners, or parent(s) seeking understanding, meaning, and healing in their life and in their relationships. Often, these are clients that have already begun their journey; they’ve read books, taken quizzes, or have completed a workbook and yet, it’s still not working. The ideal client is ready to try something different to reach their potential. Honoring our humanity and the world we live in, I utilize an umbrella approach that begins with a Trauma-Informed and Attachment Lens. Under the umbrella, are approaches used to meet the client where they are at and enable new skills to develop.

"I am ready to give up." I've heard those words of discouragement over and over from new clients who have used up almost all of their energy and hope. Most of my new clients have suffered for years with Anxiety Disorders like OCD, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, General Worry, Stress, or PTSD. They tell me they have tried everything for this anxiety and nothing works. I am delighted to offer them a powerful and proven treatment for anxiety and fears.

This is not how it’s supposed to be. Tuning out the pain works some days. Others, it is relentless, overwhelming. It can hurt to blink. Thank goodness there’s work. the kids. the dog. They give a reason to get out of bed – avoid the guilt. No one understands. Going along with my boss or partner seems so simple at the time - until it turns sour. Irritability comes out of nowhere. Snap! Then crash! At least social distancing makes isolating more acceptable. It’s all so exhausting. Like having the gas pedal and the brake to the floor, at the same time. ‘Coping’ and ‘managing’ are a joke. Is relief too much to ask?!

Some people find themselves feeling stuck with certain thoughts and feelings. Others find themselves repeating behaviors that lead to unproductive and problematic situations in their life. Therapy is a process where these concerns can be discussed and worked through from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My therapeutic approach is to assist you in reaching your personal or relationship goals with more effective ways of being. The adolescents and adults I work with are understood as individuals that have their own unique attitudes, beliefs, and experiences.

When I reflect on my education, professional, personal experience and distill my thoughts; I conclude *You are feeling pretty bad or you would not be making this search. *You want some part or several parts of your life to work better. *What used to work or what you do to improve things is not helping or not helping fast enough.* People change many areas and elements of their life when they figure out what needs attention, what to do, and how.* People are embarrassed to make this first call for information but also know - It Is Time to Do Something.

Life is not always easy. Add in a global pandemic, community uprise, and our ongoing political environment, and some days it feels impossible. I get it, and want to be a source of reprieve. My goal is to help you create a better relationship with yourself whereby creating better relationships in the rest of your life. I believe that all of us need a person to talk to that has no bias or judgement in regards to what we are facing. I want to 'dig deep' so to speak and get to the root of what is stopping you from living your best life.

Teen Therapists
Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. The transitional period can raise questions of independence and identity; as adolescents cultivate their sense of self, they may face difficult choices about academics, friendship, sexuality, gender identity, drugs, and alcohol.

Most teens have a relatively egocentric perspective on life; a state of mind that usually abates with age. They often focus on themselves and believe that everyone else—from a best friend to a distant crush—is focused on them too. They may grapple with insecurities and feelings of being judged. Relationships with family members often take a backseat to peer groups, romantic interests, and appearance, which teens perceive as increasingly important during this time.

The transition can naturally lead to anxiety about physical development, evolving relationships with others, and one's place in the larger world. Mild anxiety and other challenges are typical, but serious mental health conditions also emerge during adolescence. Finding a teen therapist in Wayzata and addressing a disorder early on can help ensure the best possible outcome.
