You may be used to being strong and holding everything together, even when you feel exhausted or unseen. Therapy can be a space to slow down, feel understood, and reconnect with what you need. Many people come to therapy feeling emotionally worn down, stuck in relationship patterns, or caught between their own needs and the expectations of others. You may understand what is happening, yet still feel unsure how to create change. My work supports people who want clarity, steadiness, and deeper connection, without being rushed or judged. Therapy here is collaborative, trauma informed, and paced to support trust and meaningful growth.

I have a particular passion for working with young professionals, college aged individuals, and adolescents, understanding the unique challenges faced in recovery.
As a therapist I deeply value connection and collaboration in the healing process. I received my master’s degree in Integrative Behavioral Health from the University of Minnesota and have since specialized in treating eating disorders, body image distress, developmental trauma, anxiety, and depression. I have a specific interest in attachment, relational, and developmental trauma and its interconnected nature with the development of eating disorders. I am happy to work with those actively struggling with meeting their nutritional needs, or those who are further along in recovery and want to work from an anti-diet culture lens.

Whether clients are looking for support and encouragement to maximize strengths or need assistance in dealing with a wide variety of psychological issues, effective therapy begins with the formation of a relationship. I place an emphasis on meeting patients where they are, which includes taking into account environmental factors, culture, ethnicity, and family/interpersonal history. Then, collaborating together to understand goals, assets, and challenges in order to create a plan to solve problems and increase understanding. By integrating various theoretical approaches and utilizing current research from psychology and neuroscience, my goal is to provide effective individualized treatment.

Sometimes we focus so much on what’s wrong around us—what others expect, what we’ve failed at, what’s missing—that we forget something simple and powerful: The suffering is within you. And so is the solution. That’s not about blame—it’s about permission. Permission to stop chasing fixes and start listening to what your mind, body, and spirit are already trying to tell you.

I have experience working with all age ranges but enjoy working with adolescents and adults.
Hi, I'm Alex! My path into this work began in early childhood development, where I learned just how much our earliest relationships and experiences shape the way we move through the world as adults. That foundation still informs everything I do; I'm endlessly curious about the "why" behind how we feel and behave, and I hold that curiosity with warmth and zero judgment. I hope to help cultivate a space in which you feel safe and connected to express, process, and explore where you're at and where you want to be.

Life certainly has a way of presenting us with major and often unexpected challenges. While it's true that we can’t control if or when these show up, we can choose how to respond. This often means stepping away from reactions that come from a place of fear, habit, or distorted self-perceptions. By letting go of what no longer serves us, we can develop new skills that move us closer to the life we want to live, even with the difficulties we face.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
