Managing emotion, processing change, anxiety, depression, family conflict, grief, health concerns, managing mania/hypomania, and reducing panic, stress, and the impact of trauma.
Many of the individuals I work with struggle with managing daily life stressors. This may be due to experiencing a traumatic childhood, recovering from a recent traumatic event, or having trouble juggling the demands placed on them. Many people find themselves stuck or “going through the motions” and are looking for validation that they are not alone as well as help with finding hope and a purpose in their lives.

You feel like it's all on your shoulders and you're constantly failing. You're used to making things happen, but inside you feel lonely, anxious, and like a shell of a person. You grew up in a family where there was some love but asking for help is still so hard... you feel like a burden. Even now, with all you've done, you people-please, overthink every decision, and feel like you're never enough. You desperately want peace and energy... to feel whole, confident, and full of vitality again. If you're ready to go deeper than talk therapy and make real changes to how you live, sleep, eat, and connect, I'm here to help.

As a Clinical Social Worker with 30 years experience, my treatment philosophy is based in partnering with my clients in identifying and addressing their needs in ways that are relevant to them. I encourage a dialogue in which I meet the client wherever they might be emotionally and spiritually and then together, we explore the issues that led them to therapy in the first place. My job is to create a space in which my client feels safe to say things they may be afraid to say to others and to feel emotions that seem overwhelming elsewhere.

I am licensed in the state of MN and hold 2 graduate degrees with specialized training in trauma, grief and loss, and couples/relational counseling.
Do you ever feel stuck in the same patterns—like part of you knows what needs to change, but something keeps getting in the way?
I’ve spent over 20 years helping people make sense of those patterns and gently shift them. I draw from both Clinical Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy, which allows me to support both individuals and the systems they’re part of. My work is grounded in Adlerian therapy, which means I pay close attention to how your life experiences, relationships, and beliefs have shaped the way you move through the world—and how we can build something more aligned with who you want to be.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
