I draw from evidence-based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Counseling, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based practices.
You feel like it's all on your shoulders and you're constantly failing. You're used to making things happen, but inside you feel lonely, anxious, and like a shell of a person. You grew up in a family where there was some love but asking for help is still so hard... you feel like a burden. Even now, with all you've done, you people-please, overthink every decision, and feel like you're never enough. You desperately want peace and energy... to feel whole, confident, and full of vitality again. If you're ready to go deeper than talk therapy and make real changes to how you live, sleep, eat, and connect, I'm here to help.

With curiosity as my lens, I use modalities like Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and ACT.
There are times when we can feel lost and full of doubt about which way to go next. The wilderness of our lives can feel overwhelming and having a guide alongside can give perspective and support. Think of me as that guide. Together, we will venture into your wilderness, and with information and insights we gather, we will find our way through.
One of my favorite guiding tools to use is curiosity. Curiosity encourages healing and growth, incites creativity, opens us to possibilities and discoveries otherwise left unexamined, all while helping us practice exploring without judgement. An integral part of therapy.

It’s no mistake that you have found yourself here… looking for help… support… guidance… something to get you out of stuckness… the “yuk”. You’re losing sleep at night, distracted during the day and just can’t seem to get it together. You’re consumed by sadness, fear, guilt and/or shame, feeling like an unmade bed … day after day after day. Maybe you’ve tried a thing or two… or maybe you think you have tried it all, and you’re still not where you want to be. What if I told you that there is a different path? A different approach to help you truly heal and live the life you want to live?

More than just a way to capture attention, the spelling of Inner Fōkus also carries a personal meaning to the founders. The name is a nod to the German heritage shared by both Dr. Lori and Dr. Patrick, since “fōkus” is the correct spelling of “focus” in German. Our heritage, culture, and environment can have great impacts in shaping who we are. Our name, Inner Fōkus, also serves as a prominent reminder of the importance to occasionally break from current patterns and try new things.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
