My name is Iesha McLeod and I am a Licensed Psychologist (LP) based in Minnesota. I received my Doctorate from Albizu University-Miami and have been practicing for 8 years. I enjoy creating an atmosphere where clients can identify and become their true selves. It is my belief that sometimes experiences in life can taint one’s genuine self and cause them to develop defense mechanisms that prevent their true nature from being shared with the world. I have a passion for helping others navigate through life’s experiences and difficulties in order to embrace and nurture their true identity.

You might feel overwhelmed by anxiety, self-doubt, or the pressure to meet everyone else’s expectations while losing sight of your own needs. You may be used to being the one who keeps things together (the caregiver, peacekeeper, or dependable partner) and find it hard to prioritize yourself without guilt. Maybe you've focused on others who may have left you disconnected from what you truly want, stuck in people-pleasing patterns, or struggling to trust your own voice. If you're looking for a warm, safe space to understand yourself, build confidence, and create a more authentic life, we may be a good fit.

Let's be honest-sitting across from someone you don't know can be awkward and intimidating! You may feel lost and need someone to walk, provide a sounding board, and/or get in the trenches with you. I provide a safe space to do these things! Therapy is a relationship and should be treated as such. I use a relational approach with self disclosure when necessary. My style is very conversational whilst allowing my clients to be the experts on their own life and come to conclusions on their own. I provide more structure when it's wanted or needed and can do the opposite as well.

I consider it an honor to be allowed entry into someone's life as a therapist. People come to me when some suffering or limitation has opened them up enough to ask a perfect stranger for help. My hope is to provide a safe and respectful place for them to begin to look at the various strands of their lives and stories. Then, as we unravel past and present contributions to the fabric of their lives, we can examine these threads and, with new understanding, weave them back together into a new tapestry which includes fresh possibilities.

My ideal clients are women who are holding everything together. The calendar, the kids, the career while quietly struggling underneath it all. They come in carrying anxiety, depression, or the kind of exhaustion that builds when you've been strong for too long. Some are navigating new motherhood or postpartum changes. Others are in the middle of a life transition and no longer recognize themselves. What they have in common: they're ready for something to shift. I help them build real insight, identify the patterns keeping them stuck, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
