My name is Iesha McLeod and I am a Licensed Psychologist (LP) based in Minnesota. I received my Doctorate from Albizu University-Miami and have been practicing for 8 years. I enjoy creating an atmosphere where clients can identify and become their true selves. It is my belief that sometimes experiences in life can taint one’s genuine self and cause them to develop defense mechanisms that prevent their true nature from being shared with the world. I have a passion for helping others navigate through life’s experiences and difficulties in order to embrace and nurture their true identity.

I work with individuals who are navigating ADHD, anxiety, relationship stress, and identity exploration - particularly deep thinkers, neurodivergent persons, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and those who are feeling stuck. As a Minnesota transplant myself, I especially enjoy working with others navigating that transition - finding community, confidence, and a sense of home within themselves. I work best with teens, young adults, and women who are ready to understand themselves on a deeper level.

On the outside you look like you've got it completely together, but inside you're struggling. Perhaps you are self-critical, disconnected from others, or stuck in a job that is not the right fit. Or maybe you are enduring a painful dynamic in your relationship with your romantic partner, parent, child, friend, or co-worker. If any of these resonate, self-exploration can help you discover the root cause of your shame, loneliness, disconnection, existential angst, and stagnation. With help, you can cultivate a kinder relationship with yourself, deeper connections with others, and a more meaningful life at work and beyond.

DBT clients often report improvement in their self esteem, the quality of their relationships, and an increased ability to experience joy.
Ever feel like your emotions are running the show? Maybe you struggle with intense anger, overwhelming sadness, or crippling anxiety. Perhaps past experiences from your childhood are influencing how you show up in your relationships with friends, family, and partners. You've been in therapy before, and while it sometimes feels helpful to talk to someone, you still feel like life is a constant battle. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone! Many people experience emotional dysregulation and don't find the relief they are looking for in traditional therapy alone. The good news is, there IS hope, and there are more options!

You’re smart and insightful. Maybe you're struggling with ADHD-like symptoms, overwhelm, lack of focus, or self-doubt. Maybe you're the one others tend to lean on, but inside you're navigating complex relationships, old wounds, or cycles you’re ready to shift out of. You want clarity, and a fresh perspective, and some laughs - because, laughter keeps us sane! I bring a social work lens, real-world experience, and training in Predictive Processing Flash and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to help you move through the funk. I work relationally, with humor, honesty, and care, because I believe therapy should feel human.

I understand you may be hurting, worried, feeling lost, scared, frustrated, or overwhelmed. At moments like this, it may be hard to see how things can get better... That's what I'm here for. Let me help you. You are strong, skilled, and capable of improving your situation. I will listen, support, care, and ultimately help you make your life better than before. I know how bad it can get, but I also know how much things can improve; I know because I've been part of that happening for so many over the course of many years.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to move forward. Amid the abundance of information and perspectives on mental health, it can be challenging to sift through what fits your unique situation and values. Together, we identify what matters most to you, explore patterns that drive your life, and craft practical, values-aligned strategies for change. Our experiences shape us, but they don’t have to limit our ability to adapt and lead fulfilling lives. My approach is steady, collaborative, and grounded in insight and action, offering a space where each client can feel understood and supported.

Self Esteem Therapists
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
