My name is Iesha McLeod and I am a Licensed Psychologist (LP) based in Minnesota. I received my Doctorate from Albizu University-Miami and have been practicing for 8 years. I enjoy creating an atmosphere where clients can identify and become their true selves. It is my belief that sometimes experiences in life can taint one’s genuine self and cause them to develop defense mechanisms that prevent their true nature from being shared with the world. I have a passion for helping others navigate through life’s experiences and difficulties in order to embrace and nurture their true identity.

My approach is rooted in mindfulness, self-reflection, and self-compassion, providing practical strategies that help you create real, lasting change.
Maybe life looks “fine” from the outside, but inside you feel stuck. You’re keeping things together at work and in your relationships, but it feels like you’re just going through the motions. You’ve worked hard to get where you are, but lately it’s felt like something’s missing. Maybe you’re tired of overthinking, of feeling tense and disconnected, of wondering if this is all there is. You want to feel more grounded and confident. Not just surviving, but living. When we have a chance to work together, you will see real change. We will reduce the power of emotional pain by increasing connection in your life.

I’m Elena and I’m here to help you tackle the darkness that’s dimming your light. I’m ready to work together for the change you need to thrive. I didn’t truly understand what lasting change could look like until I experienced the power of a mind–body–spirit approach to healing. In my practice, I am client-centered, radically non-judgmental, and fully authentic. My style is strongly influenced by Psychodynamic Therapy, which cultivates deeper self-awareness, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which explores the connection between our body and our mental well-being.

I view psychotherapy as a partnership where together we explore your unique thoughts, feelings, habits and struggles; finding solutions that work for you. I focus on understanding the deeper patterns and experiences that influence how you see yourself and move through the world. We will examine closely the situation into which you were born and consider what you had to adapt yourself to in order to survive. With this thorough understanding of the past, we can then find ways to make changes

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
