I have been doing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for the past four years and have immense appreciation for the impact the intervention has on those who have expereinced chronic suffering due to a variety of mental health diagnosis. I prioritize the client and clinician relationship, using skills in real time to improve our ability to build a life worth living outside of sessions. I work primarily with individuals who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, Major Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. My goal is to help others break barriers that have impeded their ability to show the world who they truly are.

In life there are many things that create a sense of being stuck, something that prevents us from moving forward and living our best lives. Whether it is childhood trauma, trauma that occurred later in life, or transitions that are difficult to navigate, people often times need support in managing their symptoms. By rewiring the brain, we can find ourselves feeling less reactive and more responsive to the day to day stressors of our lives.

I have been a therapist since 1977, starting out working in the substance abuse field.
Although I've been a substance abuse counselor since 1977, I prefer to work with people already in recovery. I also specialize in sex addiction issues, as well as co-sex addiction and sexual abuse issues. I most enjoy working with individuals, believing that any relationship problems are connected to each person's individual issues.

A client who comes to me with honesty, is willing to work towards their goals is an ideal client. Anxiety, trauma, depression and family problems are problems that I treat with skill and sensitivity. Parents who need help parenting, children who suffer from a trauma, teens who are depressed and stressed out, couples who can't figure out why they are fighting so much when they really love each other, wives who struggle with low self esteem, people of any age who are very lonely, all need someone to help them sort out their challenges. "We are all just trying to do life!" That often that means asking for help.

My ideal client is someone ready to explore their emotions and patterns with curiosity. Many are neurodiverse adults navigating anxiety, self-doubt, trauma, or disconnection in a world not designed for their way of thinking and feeling. They want to feel seen, understood, and empowered to live more authentically. Together, we build emotional awareness, resilience, and self-compassion—creating a sense of inner safety and confidence to navigate life’s challenges with greater ease

Most of my experiences have involved the treatment of complex trauma and helping those who have sustained various forms of abuse, trauma, and violence.
I am very passionate about helping people learn what they need, during different seasons and transitions in life. I am here as a helpful guide. You are in the driver's seat and know your own owner's manual. I start out in the passenger seat reflecting back, using client-centered approaches, and body-based strategies, to help you become more familiar with what you likely already know within. Eventually I move to the back seat to encourage you along the way. Over time, I become a cheerleader outside of the car. I really enjoy working with those who want to learn more about themselves and grow each day.

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
