Transpersonal Therapists in Saint Paul, MN
My approach to therapy is relational, integrative, and tailored to each person. I believe deeply in people’s capacity to change and offer compassionate, non-judgmental support grounded in years of experience treating trauma (including PTSD with Prolonged Exposure), anxiety, and substance-use–related concerns. I bring humor and humanity into the work because therapy is easier when we can relax. If I’m not the right fit, I’ll help guide you to someone who is.

You don’t need to be fixed. But you might be longing to be met—with presence, care, and attunement that doesn’t rush to change you, but stays long enough for you to remember how to be with yourself. That’s where I begin.
I help people come home—to their bodies, breath, and the quiet knowing already within. Not by solving, but by slowing down.
Clients have called our work “a vacation to the truth,” “a conduit of my own healing,” and “a space where I feel so seen and held… that never happens—and it’s priceless.”

Experience Counts Life makes one consistent demand: that we adjust to change. After 45 years of experience in providing therapy, I have learned many wise approaches to change that seem to help my clients. Throughout these years of providing empathetic, energetic, thoughtful care to my clients, I have also personally seen a lot of change. At the time of my graduate degree in clinical social work from Tulane University in 1974 the therapy world was all about psychodynamic therapy. I always appreciate that classical training, but have also evolved to include a more cutting-edge, holistic, client centered approach.

Currently only accepting new clients for ketamine therapy, psychedelic preparation and integration work. Using a warm, casual, active style, I help clients find their own way toward growth and health through deep somatic work. In a world that typically looks at the surface, I will work with you to explore the deeper parts of yourself and your life. I primarily use a somatic lens, helping you tune into your body's wisdom and healing. In addition to ketamine assisted therapy, I also offer private Holotropic Breathwork sessions as well as prep and integration sessions for expanded states of consciousness.

You may appear high-functioning on the outside while privately struggling with distraction, shame, self-criticism, or a sense that certain habits have become harder to control. You might find yourself returning to patterns that don’t align with your values, like compulsive digital behaviors, social media, shopping, gambling, or unwanted porn use. Or perhaps you are struggling with social anxiety or self-esteem. Many people who seek this work are thoughtful and capable but tired of surface solutions. You’re looking for meaningful, durable change and therapy that examines what’s actually driving the patterns beneath the surface.

I'm a psychologist assisting people with a wide variety of problematic situations. I have 40 years in the field of mental health counseling and consulting. My practice consists of Telehealth & (limited) home visits during the afternoons and evenings, and consulting in the community in institutional settings. My 4 decades in mental health have taught me the importance of critical lifestyle practices and habits that make or break our mental health, and our overall well being. These include circadian health, sleep hygiene, and a healthy relationship with food, movement, and good ol' Mother Nature.

There is a Buddhist parable that talks about the two arrows that wound humanity in life, one of which is inevitable and one that is not. The first arrow is the arrow of physical and emotional pain, unavoidable experiences in life. The second arrow is the arrow of suffering. Suffering is how we feel towards our physical and emotional pain. Each of us has the ability to avoid shooting this second arrow of suffering. This is possible through changing our relationship with our pain.
As your therapist, I am interested in accompanying you on the exploration of your inner world. Our work together will include ->

As a human, I know that we all suffer from past traumas and old programs installed by our culture, family or even our own selves. I have also learned the value of having a space to explore those burdens, become curious about where they came from and assess how they are affecting you in your current life.
As a therapist, my goal is to provide you with a calm, open space to do just that. We can explore the things that weigh you down, learn the lessons they have provided you and work to set them down so you can free up space and energy within yourself to create more of what you do want in your life.

Transpersonal Therapists
How does transpersonal therapy work?
Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.
How long does transpersonal therapy last?
Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.
Is transpersonal therapy effective?
Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.
What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?
There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
