Most individuals I work with struggle with issues that are considered dual diagnosis, or individuals that struggle with both mental health and substance use issues.
I offer an open ear that has gone through many of the same things my client's have. I enjoy building a positive, supportive, therapeutic relationship, where individuals feel at ease to share what there struggling with, and are open to looking at situations and experiences from a different lens.

Whether your story has been impacted by justice involvement, substance use and addiction, relational conflict, or community and racial stigma, I would be honored to join with you on your path of breaking free of the chains that once held you, and empower you to become the author of your own story.
My practice is guided by culturally-responsive, person-centered frameworks that recognize the unique impact of trauma on the mind, body, and soul. I tailor practices from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems Theory, and Psychodynamic Perspectives to meet the individual needs of each client.

Making changes in life can often feel challenging. Uncertainty and self-doubt may create difficulties in finding a clear path forward. Through collaboration, we can identify desired changes and establish steps to achieve them. Therapy can support individuals experiencing emotional pain or problems by facilitating the change they seek. I utilize both EMDR and ART therapies to address various mental health conditions, including trauma, addiction, depression, grief, and anxiety. Additionally, as a certified yoga instructor, I incorporate somatic work into my practice.

If you're like most people who seek help, you've already tried everything. You've come to the end of your rope, and you're afraid that even therapy won't work. I know - I've been there. Perhaps the source of your pain is a relationship with a family member, partner, or spouse. Maybe it's long-standing general anxiety or depression. Perhaps you're grappling with an addiction that's truly ruining your life. Or, perhaps you're recovering from an addiction, but anxiety and self-doubt are preventing you from moving forward with basic life goals.

My background includes working with individuals suffering from PTSD and other trauma-related disorders, as well as chemically dependent populations. With that being said, I am willing to work alongside anyone looking for a support or to make a change in their life. I have more clinical experience working with adolescent individuals and adult males, but am open to working with a more diverse range of ages, genders, and background

Feeling stuck in patterns which no longer serve you, or finding past hurts are showing up in your most important relationships? Whether you are an adult navigating the weight of trauma, a couple struggling to rebuild trust, or a family stuck in cycles of conflict and addiction, you don't have to navigate this alone. I help my clients move from "survival mode" to a place of genuine connection and freedom. In our work together, we go beyond just "talking about" the problem. I utilize EMDR to help you process distressing memories so they no longer trigger you in the present.

"I am not crazy," is the first thing many hear when thinking of mental health. Mental health is less about being crazy and more about over all well-being. Research shows that expressing ourselves can lead to positive change and better understanding of ourselves. During our journey together, I respect my clients by bringing in a culturally informed and non-judgmental lens, utilizing personal, religious/spiritual, and cultural strengths approach to healing. Together we will work on listening to our bodies and minds, integrating both for restoration and healing.

I have experience working with adults and adolescents in individual therapy, group counseling and couples therapy to address challenges related to substance use and/or mental health.
I am trained in and train others in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)- a brief, structured psychotherapy that helps people resolve distressing memories and symptoms by reprocessing how those memories are stored in the brain; often in as little as one session using eye-movement techniques with image rescripting to reduce reactivity.

My ideal client is seeking peace, clarity, and emotional relief. Whether you’re part of the East African or Muslim community or from another background, you want a space that honors both your pain and your strength. Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
