Our therapists have specialized clinical training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and exposure and response prevention for OCD .
We work with individuals of all ages with anxiety, mood and related issues across the lifespan. When working with younger children, we meet with parents without the child for the first evaluation session, and then meet with the child individually during the second evaluation session. Our center also routinely works with college-aged and young adult clients. Here, our therapists incorporate components of therapy geared specifically to this age group: identity development, fostering independence and autonomy, and helping clients navigate the challenges experienced during their transition into adulthood.

I have specific training, experience, and certification in the practice of Exposure and Response Prevention for treatment and management of OCD .
Do you find yourself feeling stuck or notice feeling overwhelmed with things you previously were not bothered by? These are challenging times and maybe you aren’t feeling quite like yourself. Starting therapy can feel scary and I want you to know you are not alone in this feeling. Therapy can be hard work, as it requires you to share and be vulnerable. It also allows you the space to process independently from others’ opinions or attitudes to sort through thoughts and emotions. As a therapist, it is important to me to meet you where you are in your journey to balance and healing.

As a recognized OCD expert, I believe all my clients can manage and overcome their OCD with a combination of compassionate support, bravery, and our best treatment strategies.
Do you find yourself worrying: What if I contact a germ in the environment? What if I left the stove on or door unlocked? What if I hit someone with my car? What if I uncontrollably do something terrible to someone? What if something bad happens to my baby? What if I'm gay and I don't know it? What if I can't trust my memory? What if I can't stop having this thought? If these questions are frequently on your mind (especially if you repetitively check, seek assurance, or avoid situations most others don't), you could be experiencing symptoms of Obsessive -Compulsive Disorder ( OCD ), a form of anxiety which can take over your life.

I specialize in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and provide Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy.
I look forward to working with clients that are highly motivated and ready for change. I have been able to treat individuals with challenging symptoms who may not have been properly diagnosed and subsequently, have not received appropriate treatment. The majority of my clients do not have a healthy way to cope with intrusive and sometimes disturbing thoughts. The therapy I provide empowers clients with the skills needed to feel in control of their anxiety, impulsiveness and unhealthy habits. My clients will learn how to manage unwanted thoughts and to abandon coping through rituals, escape and avoidance behaviors.

I primarily use cognitive-behavioral therapy (with exposure and response prevention for OCD ), but I collaborate with each client to create an individualized treatment plan that may incorporate other strategies.
I work with adults who feel as though worries and fears interfere with daily life. These issues might manifest as social anxiety, panic attacks, fears of specific objects or situations, general feelings of being "on edge," insomnia, or symptoms of obsessive -compulsive disorder (intrusive, upsetting thoughts/feeling driven to "do something" in response).

I specialize in OCD (including pure O and Scrupulosity), trauma, mood issues, anxiety, grief/loss, relational problems, identity, existential and spiritual struggles.
Sometimes mainstream approaches just don't cut it, and you may seek something unconventional. I love being creative and synthesizing ideas- I use techniques, concepts and practices from various psychological and philosophical orientations, scientific models, and art forms. The tools, strategies and ideas we use are introduced in the "language" and style most resonant to you, so that you feel connected and understood while exploring the different paths towards meaningful contact with your life, values and relationships.

Hi, I'm a clinical psychologist and have spent the last 20 years providing DBT in the Twin Cities community; first during my doctoral internship, then for 15 years at the University of Minnesota Psychiatry Department, and now in my private practice. I have been trained in multiple variations of DBT by recognized experts in DBT. I specialize in working with individuals who have a history of trauma and offer prolonged exposure as a treatment for PTSD. My training and experience have prepared me for helping individuals with a history of or actively struggling with suicidal thoughts and ideation.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
