The amount of family involvement will be decided by you and your family .
Work with adolescents and their families is where my passion lies. I understand and believe that the system a person is operating in can impact all parts of one's life experience. I believe it is important in therapy to meet you where you are at and explore where you want to go. Creating a path to becoming your most authentic self is one of the most rewarding and challenging acts you can do. I am honored to be a part of your process.

In addition to my therapy practice, I also provide forensic psychology services including evaluations for family and criminal court, expert witness testimony, consultation with attorneys and parenting consulting.
I help my clients by helping them to understand themselves better. In the process, they are able to find ways to be happier, more effective, and better able to solve their problems. I am comfortable with a number of approaches to therapy. Regardless of the specific approach, I help by providing keys to self-knowledge, warmth, respect, and honesty. I'm able to listen to things that are hard to talk about, tell you things that are hard to hear, and build hope in the process.

You find yourself at odds with your own family , or you continue to find yourself in unhealthy relationship patterns.
I am a licensed professional counselor specializing in trauma, perinatal mental health, and attachment issues. I work with acute and complex traumas, with the understanding trauma is truly in the eye of the beholder. Trauma can be overwhelming. We can find ourselves stuck in the same patterns. Sometimes we may even feel trapped in our own bodies or frozen in fear. Bad memories can refuse to shrink or fade. You may find yourself coping in ways that just make things worse. I have worked with individuals who have childhood abuse/neglect, sexual assault, medical trauma, trauma from being a first responder, and traumatic loss.

This can include difficulties navigating relationships, anxiety, depression, self-harm, family conflict, and much more.
Working with teenagers, young adults, and their families is a passion of mine. I specifically love working within the neurodivergent, queer, and geek communities. Today's young people and families face a lot of unique struggles, and I provide a unique space for them to work through their challenges. It is important to me that clients are able to be their genuine self in therapy, even if they don't quite know what that looks like yet!

**I am not accepting couples/ family therapy at this time** Are you overwhelmed with navigating pressures from family , culture and society? Is it hard to find someone who can understand the intersections of your identity and life experiences? My BIPOC clients often tell me about the emotional fatigue of having to explain their stories to mainstream providers. This takes the focus away from healing. They want strategies that honor their deep narratives and tools that respect their heritage and cultural wisdom. If you see yourself in any of these struggles, I invite you to schedule a free consultation with me to reclaim your story.

If you're like most people who seek help, you've already tried everything. You've come to the end of your rope, and you're afraid that even therapy won't work. I know - I've been there. Perhaps the source of your pain is a relationship with a family member, partner, or spouse. Maybe it's long-standing general anxiety or depression. Perhaps you're grappling with an addiction that's truly ruining your life. Or, perhaps you're recovering from an addiction, but anxiety and self-doubt are preventing you from moving forward with basic life goals.

At Mended Families, I help children and adults affected by divorce, remarriage, and blended family issues heal after breakups and family changes and find and restore hope, harmony, and balance in your relationships and in your home.
You are considering divorce and fear how it will affect your children. Or you're divorced and met someone and want to blend your families, but are worried about the difficulties that blending brings. These family transitions are full of significant challenges such as grief over the breakup of the family , confusion over stepparent roles and responsibilities, hostile co-parenting relationships, jealousy of ex-spouses or stepchildren, and more. You want happy and healthy relationships with partners, exes, children, and stepchildren. You hope for a sense of "we-ness" as a new family unit and crave peace and balance in the future.

I also enjoy working with people on trauma, mood disorders, ADHD, and family conflict.
Just like every client is different, every therapist is different, and it's important to find someone who you like working with. We might be a good match if you are someone who is willing to try new things, as a lot of therapy is thinking about things in a different way. We could be a good fit if it's important to you that you can talk to your therapist about anything and not feel judged. I value creating a shame-free environment where clients can truly speak. Also we might be a good match if you enjoy humor in your sessions. Therapy shouldn't be all miserable. I aim for 25% miserable, tops.

I am one of the few therapists (less than 12%) to specialize in Marriage and Family Therapy .
Therapists can't be good at everything. That's why I devote the vast majority of my practice to couples. Relationships are hard and we can find ourselves acting in ways that surprise even ourselves when things go wrong. So, you won't find me occupying the moral high ground, playing therapy tricks on you, or judging you. I'm marriage and relationship friendly, so I won't push you toward a crisis, a divorce or a break-up. As it is 50% of marriages end in divorce and upwards of 65% of second marriages end in a break-up, so if you have hopes and dreams for making things work, I'll be behind you 100%.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
