Female Therapists in Merrlam Park, Saint Paul, MN

I am working primarily with women and female clients at this time.
Have you had a recent change in your life and want a safe person to talk with to better understand yourself? Perhaps your feelings have felt more intense: anxiety, depression, confusion, or desire to find purpose to your life. You look around - seeking answers, understanding, & deeper healing. Maybe a life situation unfolded and you were suddenly on a path you never imagined (job loss, divorce, etc) or one you wanted to be on but it’s more stressful or different than what you thought (attending college or a new job). If this is you, I can support you. I approach all my clients with the understanding that we are capable of change.

I am a white, fat, queer, and cis woman.
Hi! I'm Sarah and I use she/her pronouns. My therapy practice is trauma-informed, feminist, relational, and empathetic, These approaches mean the foundation of our work is the relationship we build. I believe in compassionate curiosity and thoughtful questions to support you through life's various struggles. I became a therapist because I believe I can best support people navigating the multitudes of their existence and experiences. I am destined for complexity. I believe when complexity is held and explored, no one gets left out. I desire to hold space for people to ask questions, seek support, and explore who they want to be.

I also offer services revolving around women's health, relationships, and physical health.
I have a lifelong passion for serving others. I have always had a deep interest in the world around me and endlessly curious about the many ways I could be a part of effecting change. I have dedicated my life to learning about politics and global health in an effort to understand better the systems that are inextricably linked to how we experience the communities we inhabit. I work with feminist theory and I believe in tailoring my approach to where the client is on their healing journey. I am also of Eastern European decent, and enjoy working with folks of a similar background.

I am a woman veteran and have grown to love Minnesota and everything it has to offer.
My style in therapy is relational and conversational. I prefer to use my cognitive behavior therapy and attachment-based techniques in therapy most of the time. Sometimes therapy includes having small goals each week to help build habits that lead to the client's overall goals in therapy.

In my practice working with people both as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Coach for Professionals, I've helped women and men overcome feelings of doubt, learn new ways of interacting with the world and with themselves and tools for dealing with those intense deep down feelings that are often hidden from the outside world.
You are smart and resourceful, but feeling stuck. This is so deeply human. We are relational beings. Why would us needing support be any different? Therapy helps you get unstuck, takes it to the next level and challenges you.

I am passionate about working with female-identifying individuals, people who have experienced trauma, and all members of the LGBTQIA2+ community, and I am currently prioritizing these individuals for intakes.
The relationship between me & my clients is the most important part of the therapy process, & I use this relationship to facilitate growth. Sessions with me are rooted in person-centered, Humanistic theory, but I also incorporate concepts from CBT, DBT, and IFS. I also offer Brainspotting and a more "bottom up" approach when talk therapy isn't quite enough.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
