I blend concepts from ACT, CBT, MI, EMDR, mindfulness, somatic, hypnotherapy, and energy psychology.
My ideal client is an adult seeking to understand who they are, lower suffering, anxiety, chronic worry, tension, pain, grief, and guilt. Clients are ready for change and tangible results they can feel and see. Some clients explore existential, philosophical and spiritual questions about the human condition, such as death awareness, the nature of the self, and religious, spiritual or metaphysical experiences, including near-death experiences. Some clients focus on help with chronic health issues. Clients live "anywhere" in MN and meet me online solely for convenience, they are from many faiths, cultures, born in or outside the US

Hello! I have been providing mental health and career counseling for over 25 years. My number one priority to an individual or couple seeking therapy is to present a safe space. I want them to know that it’s okay to be vulnerable; it’s okay to share from their heart. It is gratifying to help clients recognize their strengths and how to utilize them to cope with daily stressors. I want them to feel empowered, to be the driving force that propels them through their journey.

Is your child or adolescent struggling? Maybe a recent divorce, life transition, or addiction in the family has brought out some behaviors that are concerning to you. While I also work with couples, my primary focus is kids and teenagers that need some support or help working through a traumatic event. Often children show symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma differently than adults do, but noticing a behavioral change in your child and getting them support right away can make all the difference.

I love helping clients navigate anxiety, self-esteem challenges, or major life transitions like starting college, changing careers, or ending relationships. I've also worked with those in helping professions who may feel burnt out or struggle to prioritize themselves. Working with individuals who are open to learning assertiveness and making meaningful changes is my jam. My style is warm, honest, and humorous. I’ll support you while also gently challenging patterns that keep you stuck. If you want a therapist who will listen, laugh with you, and call you out (kindly!) when needed, we’ll get along great!

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
