Dr. Peter Schaub is a postdoctoral psychology fellow at The Recovery Clinic and Kodiak Recovery. Peter is passionate about working with individuals facing addictions and co-occurring disorders, and he has been in recovery since 2008. He earned his doctorate of clinical psychology (PsyD) at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and completed his pre-doctoral internship at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. Peter conducted his doctoral dissertation on 12-step recovery trends among individuals with ADHD and co-occurring substance use disorders.

I am licensed in both Mental Health and Addiction Counseling specializing in helping individuals and families who struggle with mental health and/or addiction issues. If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, or stress from relationships, parenting, work, significant loss, or struggling with addiction or recovery, I can help. My style is to provide you with a supportive, confidential, non-judgmental space regardless of the issues, and help you discover your strengths to find meaningful solutions. I currently meet with clients both in person and via Telehealth.

As a therapist, my goal is to allow you to be who you are right now, using a lot of empathy (and well-meaning humor) as well as structure and direction, when necessary. My approach is one of curiosity about you and your ideal self and future. I am typically pretty direct in my approach, which people tend to really appreciate and enjoy! I have an extensive experience working with mental health and substance use issues and supporting families. I enjoy working with individuals and couples; as well as parent coaching. Areas of specialty are anxiety and depression, women's emotional health, aging, trauma, grief and loss, body image and disordered eating, co-dependency, self-esteem, self-harm, and substance abuse/dependence. My approach is adaptive to whom I am working with. I have training in and utilize motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, solution focus, EMDR, 12 step facilitation, as well as psychoeducation.

Throughout life we have experiences and we create meaning about those experiences. These narratives that we create interact with and influence our thoughts, feelings, and interactions with others. Sometimes, our narratives can create interpersonal problems or hold us back in living our day-to-day lives. Beverly works to increase one's self awareness to support them in seeing existing patterns and to help one separate themselves from the problem to discover workable solutions and find hope.

Anna believes that it is important to meet people where they are, and work with clients to create the kind of life they find fulfilling. Clients come to therapy for a variety of reasons, some of which include depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, life transitions and changes, family and relational concerns, substance abuse, grief and loss, body image issues, need for coping strategies to manage stress, and many other reasons. I've been in private practice since 1997, specializing in working with complex family systems and children and adult victims of trauma and grief/loss. I work in creative ways to help marriages be healthy and life giving. As a Parenting Consultant, I work with divorcing families on co-parenting issues or on reunifying parenting relationships. I work with area schools as a chemical health consultant, with families that need an intervention for a loved one, and after care following chemical health treatment.

Is communicating with your soon-to-be ex difficult, painful and near impossible? Are you concerned about attorney costs and influence that can deplete your emotional and financial resources? As your divorce coach I partner with you to provide experienced practical and emotional support and guidance at every stage of the divorce process.

Clients often decide to meet with a therapist when they have situations in their lives that they cannot seem to work through on their own. Many of them have tried talking to friends or relatives, but still feel stuck. I will help you look at problems in ways which will help you move in a direction that makes sense for you. I work closely with clients to help them resolve their concerns and problems in an environment which is confidential and nonjudgmental. Many of my clients say they begin to feel better after the first session.

The theories I use to guide my practice are cognitive behavioral theory and attachment theory. Awareness of thoughts and feelings makes positive behavioral changes possible. Developing a trusting therapeutic relationship leads to opportunities to grow while strengthening your relationships and your sense of self. Are you using unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with your anxiety and/or depression? Increasingly, the pressures of life, complicated relationships, traumatic events which are or feel beyond our control are leading us to problematic emotional states. Frequently, negative emotions such as shame, anger or hatred, or envy and jealousy, link to negative self-talk, dictating our feelings, thoughts and actions. I find it is usually helpful to apply a holistic approach, working with the mind/body connection which counsels attention to the present moment rather than dwelling in the past or obsessing about the future.
