Sometimes, we get stuck in problem-saturated stories. I see challenges from the perspective of a narrative. We tend to see our world in story form with themes and plots. Sometimes these become troublesome and not the story that we want to tell about ourselves, our marriages, and our families. Sometimes, these stories can lead us to believe that we are not good enough people, parents, or spouses which can cause depression, anxiety, marital and
parenting
issues. I believe that people have power over these stories and I help to uncover newfound strengths and resources through conversation and experiential interventions.

I consider it a privilege to hear your story and to collaborate with you to identify and encourage possible steps toward a more peaceful and satisfying life and relationships. My past experience with children and families in churches, in culturally diverse schools, and in supervised court-ordered visits between nonresidential parents and their children has equipped me to help children and parents with behavioral issues, resulting individual or marital stress, and issues of loss -- death, divorce, disasters and disappointment.

Megan’s ideal client is a child, adolescent, partners, or
parent
(s) seeking understanding, meaning, and healing in their life and in their relationships. Often, these are clients that have already begun their journey; they’ve read books, taken quizzes, or have completed a workbook and yet, it’s still not working. The ideal client is ready to try something different to reach their potential. Honoring our humanity and the world we live in, I utilize an umbrella approach that begins with a Trauma-Informed and Attachment Lens. Under the umbrella, are approaches used to meet the client where they are at and enable new skills to develop.

Therapy should be a collaborative process that helps you be a healthier you. Can you identify what you would like to make different in your life and the steps needed to accomplish your goals? What might get in the way? These are tough questions. I help you stay focused on your priorities, and hold space while you talk through your process. I offer support and research on what your brain might be doing as you navigate your way. I can help you deal sudden changes and the unknown, with compassion and tools to better tolerate difficult situations.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
