She focuses on the importance of "
mindfulness
" in everyday living .
We are each on a personal journey, which is filled with challenges and opportunities ... seeking balance and harmony with our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions - the full integration of well-being. We often look for answers, but they do not come as quickly as we want. We become impatient, discouraged, frustrated, angry and stuck. Be patient with the process ... Today you are one step closer to a new you where you feel empowered as you walk a positive path towards growth, development and wellness.

I have learned a variety of approaches using
mindfulness
as well as traditional therapeutic approaches.
Are you using unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with your anxiety and/or depression?
Increasingly, the pressures of life, complicated relationships, traumatic events which are or feel beyond our control are leading us to problematic emotional states.
Frequently, negative emotions such as shame, anger or hatred, or envy and jealousy, link to negative self-talk, dictating our feelings, thoughts and actions. I find it is usually helpful to apply a holistic approach, working with the mind/body connection which counsels attention to the present moment rather than dwelling in the past or obsessing about the future.

Impulse control is the number one predictor of success, use
mindfulness
to harness this! I offer dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a cognitive behavioral approach to learning skills to cope with intense emotions, and an emphasis on
mindfulness
through meditation.
A strong therapeutic relationship can support your goals to improve relationships, learn to be regulated and live a more fulfilled life. I do this by encouraging open communication and healthy boundaries, providing psychoeducational support, processing emotional issues and trauma and teaching the art and science of
mindfulness
. I provide psychotherapy to adolescents and adults who may be experiencing behavioral and emotional issues, depression, anxiety, trauma and relational issues. I will bring intensity and humor to the dynamic therapeutic relationship. Relationships are important, perhaps more now than ever!

Albert Einstein remarked, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving”. At various times in our life we find ourselves challenged to do just that as we struggle to make it through the day. Using a strengths-based perspective, I will collaborate with you to understand and confront your unique challenges and empower you to find the inner strength and resources to facilitate positive healing change so you can keep moving forward. I firmly believe that while change is inevitable, being paralyzed by change is not and you have the power to construct your own unique pathway to optimal health and wellness.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
