I enjoy working with both individuals and
couples
where stress, co-dependency, anxiety, depression, body image or
relationship
/communication issues have caused personal discord.
My greatest joy is to help people find their inner voice and personal power. Trained and Certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy, I work with both individuals and
couples
. Looking at attachment patterns that are unconsciously learned in childhood, we will see where and how those patterns play out in your life and how they hold you in unhealthy beliefs. Together, we will unravel the thought processes that thrive in judgment, scarcity, blame, and fear. I truly believe the healing process toward change occurs once YOU gain insight into yourself.

I am going to be an active and engaged
partner
in our work together.
Humor is one of my therapist superpowers. On the journey to greater emotional well-being, I want you to laugh, feel comfortable, and not take yourself too seriously. Seriously! Because when you're a parent worried about your child's peer relationships or your teen's behaviors or school performance, I know life can feel heavy. Even for adults dealing with typical life transitions, it can feel stressful and overwhelming. Whatever the challenge, I'm here for you. We will work together to regain the light-heartedness that makes life enjoyable.

We spend our lives in relationships. People in our familes, co-workers, friends partners, significant others, and spouses are part of life. Those relationships are valuable and may provide happiness and satisfaction. But relationships can become difficult and strained and sometimes cause us personal stress and frustration. Sometimes we might wonder if a
relationship
is really positive or not. Working with clients on improving their relationships is what I do most.

As a
spouse
and parent of three children I know that relationships are both wonderful and hard work! Managing demands of work, parenting and maintaining a
relationship
with a
spouse
are difficult.
Feel like things aren't going well at home, work or school, but not sure why? Your
relationship
(s) aren't working? The trust disappeared from your marriage? Your Teenager/Tween overwhelmed and you're not sure how to help? Have they turned to drugs/alcohol/video gaming? Making unsafe choices for themselves or others, or they lash out with anger? Do they lack motivation? A young adult attempting to launch or parent trying to help them launch and finding it difficult? We'll find out what's going on and then make a plan to move forward towards wellness.

A trusting therapeutic
relationship
is the beginning of positive change. With time and effort, you can begin to look at concerns and feelings like shame, loneliness, anger, fear, and sadness that may have brought you to therapy in the first place. The theories I use to guide my practice are cognitive behavioral theory and attachment theory. Awareness of thoughts and feelings makes positive behavioral changes possible. Developing a trusting therapeutic
relationship
leads to opportunities to grow while strengthening your relationships and your sense of self. I look forward to beginning this exciting and fulfilling work with you!

I have experience with children, adolescents, families, and
couples
in residential, in-home, and outpatient settings.
Sometimes, we get stuck in problem-saturated stories. I see challenges from the perspective of a narrative. We tend to see our world in story form with themes and plots. Sometimes these become troublesome and not the story that we want to tell about ourselves, our marriages, and our families. Sometimes, these stories can lead us to believe that we are not good enough people, parents, or spouses which can cause depression, anxiety, marital and parenting issues. I believe that people have power over these stories and I help to uncover newfound strengths and resources through conversation and experiential interventions.

If you're feeling burned out, stressed, or overwhelmed, I'm glad you're here. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, feelings of low self-worth, or with relationships (family, friends, or significant others). Burnout and stress can show up in dissatisfaction with our body image or a difficult
relationship
with food. Maybe you're feeling stuck or unhappy with your current job. While it is normal and natural to experience discomfort, I am confident we can work together to help you feel more at ease more of the time and to connect your life with your values.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
