I support you--an adult, a
teen
, or the child you love--overcome the suffering associated with anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, poor self-regulation, anger management, a negative self-image, lack of motivation, the effect of unresolved past experiences, challenging transitions, living and aging well with or without serious health concerns, and the frustration and hopelessness parents, partners, and children of all ages often feel communicating in families with entrenched in high conflict, power-over relationship patterns. I facilitate your path toward a more positive future with trauma sensitive evidence based practices.

At Innovative Psychological Consultants I routinely see children and
adolescent
who are struggling in school or with family conflicts. I am able to quickly connect with young people, gain their trust, and get to the bottom of the issues they are struggling with. I also work with parents to find the best system of continuity for their children and assist with any parental coaching that may be needed so that kids are thriving with parental consistency and follow through.

Megan’s ideal client is a child,
adolescent
, partners, or parent(s) seeking understanding, meaning, and healing in their life and in their relationships. Often, these are clients that have already begun their journey; they’ve read books, taken quizzes, or have completed a workbook and yet, it’s still not working. The ideal client is ready to try something different to reach their potential. Honoring our humanity and the world we live in, I utilize an umbrella approach that begins with a Trauma-Informed and Attachment Lens. Under the umbrella, are approaches used to meet the client where they are at and enable new skills to develop.

If you're feeling burned out, stressed, or overwhelmed, I'm glad you're here. Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, feelings of low self-worth, or with relationships (family, friends, or significant others). Burnout and stress can show up in dissatisfaction with our body image or a difficult relationship with food. Maybe you're feeling stuck or unhappy with your current job. While it is normal and natural to experience discomfort, I am confident we can work together to help you feel more at ease more of the time and to connect your life with your values.

Beginning a therapeutic journey can be a stressful or uncomfortable situation. I get it, it is tough to be vulnerable, let alone with someone you don’t know yet! My main priority is to provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment in which your child can be vulnerable. The therapy space and therapeutic relationship are established to facilitate the trust required to share tough subjects. Upon establishing a therapeutic relationship, therapy becomes a creative, collaborative experience of us working together to find new ways to heal and grow.

A trusting therapeutic relationship is the beginning of positive change. With time and effort, you can begin to look at concerns and feelings like shame, loneliness, anger, fear, and sadness that may have brought you to therapy in the first place. The theories I use to guide my practice are cognitive behavioral theory and attachment theory. Awareness of thoughts and feelings makes positive behavioral changes possible. Developing a trusting therapeutic relationship leads to opportunities to grow while strengthening your relationships and your sense of self. I look forward to beginning this exciting and fulfilling work with you!

You aren't living. You are surviving. Nothing brings you joy anymore. You feel drained and even small tasks feel too hard. You're tired of hearing others solutions; go for a walk, get more sleep, work out, eat healthier. You feel misunderstood so instead you say "I'm fine." It's not a lie. You do feel FINE...Fucked up. Insecure. Neurotic. Emotional. Some days you feel "meh." Other days the emptiness, the hollowness, is so unbearable thoughts of unaliving yourself seem to be the only option.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
