Getting tangled up with anxiety can feel like playing tug-of-war. Worrying, ruminating, and "what if" thoughts take up can take up so much of your time, making it hard to enjoy the things you love. Maybe you've spent your days trying to fix the way you feel through yoga, meditating, exercising, and even traditional talk therapy. But nothing gives you much relief. You are still stuck and wondering how to get out. If you struggle with anxiety, panic, intrusive thoughts, or OCD…. you are not alone. You are not crazy. You can be back to your old self again. Therapy can help you to be present in your every day life.

I work with adolescents (ages 11-18) and young adults (ages 18-35) who feel stuck in patterns that are difficult to break. They may struggle with depression, intrusive thoughts, disordered eating, body image concerns, anxiety, compulsive behaviors, substance use, communication, and controlling their anger and emotions. Or they could be feeling the pressures of relationships, social media, school, and life as an adult. Many young men find it difficult to discuss emotions and often feel isolated or misunderstood due to social barriers. Therapy helps clients find a confidential space to build insight and develop skills to make change.

I believe that most destructive beliefs and behaviors are rooted in the less than nurturing events we experience over the course of our life. Welcome to the human condition! Many of us can benefit from learning how to manage our human experience in healthier, constructive ways that promote growth and personal evolution. I believe in utilizing the brain's neuroplasticity and activating our innate capacity to increase and strengthen positive, growth inspiring beliefs and behaviors.

Does one partner in your marriage have an ADHD diagnosis or is there suspicion of ADHD? Some of the ways that shows up in marriage: a history of not following through, forgetting tasks, the non-ADHD partner may seem like they are angry all the time while the (possibly) ADHD partner seems defensive all the time. There might be big reactions to small complaints & there might be a variety of challenges with time: procrastination, being late, not recognizing how much time has been spent on something or the time something takes. I help these couples find their way back to good relationships as a sub-specialist in ADHD couples counseling.

Do any of the following resonate with you? Resentment is eating away at your joy in life. You are avoiding things. You feel lonely, even when you are with others. You appear to have it all together, but inside you feel raw. Feeling stuck at work, unhappy in relationships, preoccupied, pressured to perform. Everyone keeps talking about 'boundaries' but you're not sure how to create them without feeling guilty. You are an intelligent, caring, and determined person. You want to grow and improve but you're slipping into old patterns. You want to feel present in the moment instead of thinking about what's next.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, or just tired of holding everything together, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to sort through it by yourself anymore. I work with adult women who are navigating concerns like perimenopausal anxiety or mood changes, late-diagnosed ADHD, family-of-origin wounds, people-pleasing, spiritual or church hurt, boundaries, relationship difficulties, and grief that comes from losses due to death, big shifts in life, and other life losses. Many of the women I see tell me they’ve spent years taking care of everyone else and suddenly realize they’ve lost touch with who they are.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is better understand your own story. Working through your past allows you to better understand your patterns, beliefs, and strengths to optimize where you are headed. Too often in life, we experience events that silence us, making it hard to know where to turn. In my office, I work hard to create and hold space for my clients rooted in compassion, empathy, and safety. No matter where you are in your journey, I believe everyone has the potential to find more peace and live closer to their authentic beings.

I work with people who are feeling overwhelmed, disillusioned, or fearful about the current state of the country and the world. Perhaps the recent election or the ongoing climate crisis, combined with the stress you are carrying in your personal life, weigh heavily on you, leaving you feeling unsettled or even paralyzed by grief and anxiety. In our work together, we won’t pretend there are simple solutions—there rarely are. But I am deeply experienced in navigating through grief, panic, and the search for resilience in uncertain times. I offer a grounding space for you to explore these feelings.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
