Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists in Oakdale, MN
I started in the mental health field because I believe that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. To do so, we need to address the things that are holding us back and preventing us from thriving. Through counseling, I will help you discover yourself and unpack the lies, beliefs, and pain that are keeping you stuck. Circumstances can be hard, but they don’t have to be. The sky is the limit when it comes to health, healing, and reaching your goals.

I specialize in ADHD and ASD (Autism) and also treat obsessions and compulsions, anxiety, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem concerns, and depression. I support the fact that every individual possesses unique strengths built day by day, and I strive to incorporate the unique values in every individual when creating a therapeutic experience of comfort, motivation, and positive growth. In practice, I use cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance/commitment therapy. I greatly enjoy working with both children and adults in this approach. Additionally, I also have a considerable background in performing arts and sports.

My training stems from evidence-based treatments (I-CBT, ERP, CBIT), but I incorporate other techniques such as mindfulness, art etc.
I identify as a bicultural (Ecuadorian-American) and Latina provider. Because of this, I recognize everyone’s unique experiences and challenges. I meet individuals where they are at, but I am open to challenging my clients (at your pace!) too. I provide a collaborative, safe, humorous, and flexible environment. I am very much willing to move around in session, participate in other activities, or just calmly sit. I am currently working towards my LPCC licensure, but I have spent 9+ years working in various mental health settings such as children’s residential treatment center, case management, and suicide prevention/suicidality.

The world can feel like a lonely place when you struggle with feelings of anxiety and depression. Maybe what you are feeling can’t be explained and no one knows how you feel. People have told you to "just get over" things that have hurt you or to suck it up when you feel low. Maybe you were never taught how to express the way you feel emotionally and if you did, you were dismissed. If this is the case, know you are not alone there are people out there that feel the same as you do. There is hope in therapy. There is a safe place to be validated to be heard.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
