Grief
is ever-present within our lives. Whether it’s an abrupt shift in our daily routine, a noticeable difference within ourselves, or a transition of our career, we experience it. We feel it after a change in our relationship, the
loss
of a pet, or, a heartbreaking
death
of a loved one. All change results in
loss
of some sort, and that which accompanies it, is
grief
.
Grief
can leave us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and scared. We feel exposed and vulnerable. We begin to question ourselves and the world we are in. Whatever your
grief
, know that I will honor it.

I work with adults and teenagers who are experiencing life-phase transitions, substance and alcohol abuse, and
grief
and
loss
.
I believe personal agency is key to finding meaning in distressing scenarios and growing from them. I use both Existential and solution-oriented approaches when engaging with clients and provide individuals, couples, and families with tools for self-awareness and self-empowerment through a mixture of theoretical models tailored to the client’s strengths and needs. I work to help clients establish more adaptive patterns of thinking with humor, empathy, and respect. While I will explore root causes of issues, I emphasize the importance of personal growth and identifying personal strengths.

Change is a central experience in the human condition. Life has a way of presenting both the things we want and the things we don't want. Sometimes the unwanted shatters our hopes and expectations, like the
loss
of a loved one through
death
or divorce or illness, or the
loss
of a job, or a dream. My intention is to help you find a deeper awareness of yourself and your mission in your unfolding story. Guided by your pace, I seek to be a supportive and active presence as you follow your unique path into and through the changes life presents.

Therapy is a unique opportunity to explore ourselves, & how we relate to others, in an intentional way. I’ve been providing therapy in private practice for 12+ years & believe a supportive therapeutic relationship is the foundation for a meaningful therapy experience. You can expect compassion, curiosity, & even humor to be a part of our work together. I love to support clients in both symptom reduction, as well as improved wellness & a better sense of self. I work with high achievers who are not used to taking time and space for their own care - college students, parents, executives, helping professions, etc.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
