Immediate Opening w/ Other Provider At Clinic (child, teen, young adult). My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, accepting, and open environment for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions without judgement. I seek to understand each individual's goals for therapy, and help them to build upon their skills and knowledge to achieve a state of healing and growth. Life presents us with a number of challenges, and I view the therapeutic
relationship
as powerful alliance in assisting clients in navigating through these transitions. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults, and I provide both individual and

My goal is to help you build a better
relationship
with yourself.
Sarah (she/her) enjoys working with teens and adults to identify unique strengths, build resilience, and live more purposeful, fulfilling lives. The clients I enjoy working with the most commonly face the following issues—stressful work environments, feeling disconnected from loved ones, anger, resentment, impulsivity and risk-taking behaviors, substance use, and/or struggle with a lack of purpose. My clients are often trying to understand their own decision making patterns. Many of my clients are high school/college students, first responders, and healthcare professionals.

I counsel individuals, families and
couples
in private practice and facilitate parent education classes and grief and loss support groups.
I consider it a privilege to hear your story and to collaborate with you to identify and encourage possible steps toward a more peaceful and satisfying life and relationships. My past experience with children and families in churches, in culturally diverse schools, and in supervised court-ordered visits between nonresidential parents and their children has equipped me to help children and parents with behavioral issues, resulting individual or marital stress, and issues of loss -- death, divorce, disasters and disappointment.

I have worked with people suffering from depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder,
relationship
issues, sexual issues, personality disorders, and many more.
I know no one who is "accidentally" in counseling or therapy. Thus, this step and this choice is often quite difficult. I embrace building rapport with my clients in a way that allows us to engage in a collaboration of unique, innovative and effective techniques to overcome the challenges, problems and/or difficulties they are facing, whether in their social, personal, or business life. I take pride in listening to my clients and trying to provide them thoughtful tools they can use long after our sessions are complete.

Honestly, he’s a really great guy. Chris is the type of therapist that can help you work through some real, heavy stuff, but he can also have you laughing right after (He does improv comedy. Like, what? Awesome!). And, as he would say, "But, I’m also hardcore nerdy and love building an authentic, lighthearted
relationship
with clients. I love to talk video games, the MN Twins, comedy, and anything alternative. So, I dig it all.”

Whether you're faced with
relationship
concerns or individual issues, I will help you work through them. I believe you have the answers within you and my role is to help you tap into them. You know yourself best but sometimes it's hard to sort through problems, especially when they're causing stress or depression. Try a first session and see the benefit. If I'm not the best fit for you, that's ok. Sometimes you have to try more than one person. Therapy should be a safe place and that is what I would want for you!

and with individuals navigating trauma.
Throughout life, we accumulate experiences that shape the views we hold of ourselves and of the world around us. Some of the hardest things we may face in life can drastically alter those views and change the way we function in our world. We can become stuck in negative conflict cycles with our
partner
, or plagued by anxiety or depression. We long to get back to normal. Just as a plant thrives when given the right environment, so can you. Through a blend of attachment, mindfulness, and trauma-based therapies I support my clients in identifying and removing the blocks to their growth.

Psychotherapy is simply a conversation designed to help you understand yourself more completely. Rather than providing answers, it helps you identify what is interfering with your ability to live in a satisfying way. I have helped people sufferring from depression, anxiety, and
relationship
problems - even when previous attempts at treatment have failed. Meaningful change is possible in an environment of mutual respect and safety, where you can tell your own story at your own pace. I work with both individuals and
couples

I have 19 years of experience providing individual therapy, group therapy and
couples
therapy in community mental health and outpatient settings.
Life is hard, sometimes! Therapy provides you with that extra support as well as the opportunity to grow, evolve and learn new ways to cope with life's challenges. I believe the trust and rapport built between a client and therapist forms the foundation of all progress made in therapy. This
relationship
supports increasing awareness of the present, identifying what is no longer working, setting long term goals and taking small steps toward those goals. Building a life based in vitality, hope and an increased capacity for joy rather than one filled with suffering, avoidance and futility.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
