You don't have to struggle with difficult emotions or experiences alone; let me help! If you are experiencing feelings of anxiety or depression, we may explore the parts of you that are hurting and how to resolve the hurt. We may focus on increasing positive emotions or learning from the difficult ones. Adjusting to the stress of college? I can help navigate changed relationships, cope with new roles, responsibilities, and emotions. Worried about your teen's stress and mood? I can guide you in parenting or provide therapy for your teen.

I have worked with many people over the years; young children, adolescents, young adults, adults, all with various issues. Many of the clients I see are struggling with anxiety, worries, depression, chemical use, relationship concerns, or parenting dilemmas. Often times, people are most helped by having someone to listen, to help them explore the issue, and to find solutions that work for them. My 35 years of experience have given me insight into what strategies are most effective. I am licensed and skilled in both mental health and chemical use issues.

Hope and optimism can feel like they are far, far away when you are in the midst of chronic depression. A day without depression is a huge change in some people's lives. Mental health treatment can bring optimism in the midst of pessimism and darkness. Psychotherapy introduces tools to help you cope with the exhaustion of emptiness and frustration of social anxiety. Whether your issues are related to depression or dysfunctional relationship patterns, there is hope.

Are you crispy from helping others, secretly wish someone would ask what you need but know you’d just say you’re fine? It can be hard to know what we need and find ways to feel supported. That’s where therapy can help. People often come into my office saying, “I hate accepting and asking for help.” I work with folks who support others, formally (counselor, first responder, nurse) or informally (family, friend, partner), and find they need tools to care for themselves, navigate past traumas, connect with their loved ones, or realign with their core values. You deserve a teammate on your adventure towards relief and joy.

There are many transitions in life. Sometimes we need help navigating those transitions. My favorite quote is , "Where there is a Will there is a Way." Taking the first step with attending therapy just takes Will to find your Way. I profoundly believe in forming a strong therapeutic relationship and hope to utilize various theoretical skills to meet the unique needs of each client and their family. I enjoy working with children, adults, couples and families from all stages in life.

Life can just really suck sometimes! Therapy can often be the jump start needed to help you move in the direction of healing. I work primarily with adolescents and young adults. Currently, I am the only certified FBT Therapist in the state of Wisconsin, which is the leading treatment approach for adolescents/young adults diagnosed with an eating disorder. In addition, I also treat anxiety, OCD, social anxiety, and mood related difficulties. I am also here if you are navigating a difficult life transition... those can be brutal! I have been a therapist for just over 10 years and would love to hear more about your goals!

Gregory S. Ferriss, MS, MDiv, earned his master’s degree in clinical mental health from Winona State University. Greg is taking new clients both in person or online. He sees a variety of patients from pre-teen to couples to college students to older adults. Working primarily in cognitive behavioral therapy, Greg believes a warm, supportive environment is key to helping a client talk about the type of struggles most people face but rarely discuss. For Greg, psychotherapy should feel like a conversation with a good friend but uses proven techniques to battle depression, anxiety or many other problems that people face regularly.

Starting therapy can be a daunting process, difficult in finding openings and in feeling connected with providers. I like to start the therapy process giving time for developing a relationship with my clients as the basis for gaining skills and healing from past experiences. I never push clients to feel uncomfortable or approach topics before they are ready. I try to meet people where they are at, sit with them in their current feelings and emotional states and offer skills to shift out of these states. My main goal is to provide a safe place of support for clients to feel heard and understood in their own life experiences.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
