Does this vibe? " I’m constantly overthinking every little thing while simultaneously forgetting everything". Or, "I’m interested in discovering different aspects of intimacy and relationships and I need help figuring out what I want". What about, " I’m trying to make what feels like a bazillion (yes this is an actual word) decisions every day, while trying to meet everyone else’s needs". Better yet, " I am lonely and overly emotional yet unemotional and clingy but distant & private but will overshare and I'm an extrovert but also its way to peoplie to go outside and connect". If this is you then let's talk!

As a therapist, I am committed to being a source of unconditional positive regard, asking hard and important questions, offering observations to identify connections in experiences, exploring and challenging negative self-beliefs, offering tools and skills in the capacity desired, and celebrating the ups and the downs of the process. I believe human growth, change, and healing is most easily found when we allow ourselves the chance to be uncomfortable. I am a Certified Accelerated Resolution Therapy Practitioner and have found it to be an incredible tool for increasing healing with life’s big and small difficulties.

People come to therapy for many reasons—some in search of deeper self-understanding, others to make sense of longstanding pain in their relationships or inner life. Above all, people come to experience some form of relief, change, and/or greater aliveness. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic principles and I work collaboratively and thoughtfully, drawing on my extensive clinical training as well as my values of warmth, curiosity, humility, and humor. Together, we will create a space where the complexities of your emotional world can be safely explored, so that new insight—and new ways of being—can emerge.

I offer depth-oriented therapy for adolescents and adults, grounded in psychoanalytic thought and guided by my personal values of curiosity, authenticity, and presence. In therapy with me, there is space for the feelings and experiences you’ve carried alone: the ones that feel heavy, complicated, or difficult to put into words. Many therapies focus on managing symptoms or teaching strategies to “feel better.” While those approaches can provide temporary relief, they often leave untouched the deeper layers of suffering, despair, and longing that shape your inner world.

I enjoy most working with adults who may have a disorder of executive functioning (e.g., ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disorders. Many unknowingly have these conditions, which also have distinct strengths and offer gifts for others. Those affected can benefit from self-knowledge, education, and treatment. Understanding how to meet personal potential and developing new skills and strategies can make a huge difference. I have been evaluating performing pre-surgical psychological evaluations for two decades. I can accommodate people who need immediate evaluation, usually within a month or sooner.

In my work with clients, I rely upon my varied work experiences, striving always to bring a sense of curiosity, not judgment (a la Ted Lasso). I see my clients as humans, first and foremost, in order to gain insight into their unique experience. In addition to utilizing a variety of therapeutic strategies tailored to each client, I employ analogies and metaphors to achieve the benefits of therapy. Often the shadows in our lives are bigger than the objects themselves.

I'm not a stereotypical, rigid, "how do you feel about that?" kind of therapist. I'm a casual, quirky kind of therapist. I will show up authentically and welcome you to do the same. Are you into sarcasm, dark humor, or swearing? I'm here for it. Are you reserved, nervous, sensitive, shy, or tearful? I'm here for you, too! I believe therapy isn't just about the bad or difficult things - but all of who you are. I want our sessions to be a space for you to share your story, laugh, process, build skills, cry, problem-solve, vent, or just talk about what's on your mind. Therapy is whatever you want and need it to be!

For many of us, living fully in the present moment is hard to do when pain from the past forces itself into our daily lives. That pain can come from past abuse or neglect, rejection, grief, a serious medical diagnosis, feeling different or never fitting in, losses that may accompany aging or other life transitions, or the accumulated assaults of racism, sexism, homophobia or any other "ism". My goal as an integrative therapist, EMDR-trained and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, is to work together with you to help you learn to live more fully in the present moment, free from the pain of the past.

I am an LPCC Candidate in counseling psychology from Adler University. My presence as a therapist is empathic and gentle. In addition to being psychoanalytically-informed, I utilize a somatic approach that focuses on feeling safe in your body throughout therapy. Learning to listen to our body's needs allows us to heal. In my work with couples, I find it essential to focus on how individuals can be authentic in the relationship yet feel belonging and significance with their partner. If your concern is complex trauma or simply needing help adjusting to life changes, I would be honored to work with you through the process.

How many times have you wanted to just quit everything? Maybe you're burnt out, profoundly anxious, or crumbling under the pressure you've put on your shoulders. Maybe you felt like things weren't working for a while, but you told yourself to hold out a little longer in case it all changes. Or maybe you've been piling on promises and now there's too much going on to even know where to begin. And perhaps you've heard more than once in your life that you "really need to chill." If that sounds like you, I'm glad you're here.

Optum Therapists

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?

Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
