Getting tangled up with anxiety can feel like playing tug-of-war. Worrying, ruminating, and "what if" thoughts take up can take up so much of your time, making it hard to enjoy the things you love. Maybe you've spent your days trying to fix the way you feel through yoga, meditating, exercising, and even traditional talk therapy. But nothing gives you much relief. You are still stuck and wondering how to get out. If you struggle with anxiety, panic, intrusive thoughts, or OCD …. you are not alone. You are not crazy. You can be back to your old self again. Therapy can help you to be present in your every day life.

I enjoy working with adults with a variety of mental health needs, including anxiety, obsessive -compulsive disorder ( OCD ), depression, and relationship concerns.
Your self-defeating worry and ruminative thoughts are getting in the way of living a fulfilled life. You feel like you are stuck in an anxiety spiral that seems out of control and unmanageable; it impacts your sleep, health, work, and relationship with yourself and those around you. Maybe your intrusive thoughts and fears lead you to avoid or engage in repetitive behaviors. While this can help you feel better temporarily, it often leads to increased avoidance and anxiety in the long-term. If this sounds like you, let’s work together to get you unstuck from the anxiety cycles and learn to manage your intrusive thoughts.

I work primarily with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship distress, obsessive compulsive disorder, and life transitions. My number one goal in therapy is to understand you as best I can, and to help you do the same. Individuals who have some amount of curiosity about themselves and who are willing to self-reflect will do well in this type of therapy. My practice is informed by psychodynamic, relational, feminist, multicultural, and exposure-based theories. The first step is to build a trusting relationship with you so that you can feel comfortable expressing all the different parts of you.

You want the dreadful thoughts to go away, you want to feel better, you want control over your life again. I understand how hard it can be to live with the demands of OCD , and I know how to help.

I focus on learning who a person is uniquely, and I take an active role in treatment, offering genuine warmth and support as well as practical feedback. I work via video with most mental health issues including depression, anxiety, OCD , and trauma.
At some point in our lives, many of us look around and realize we no longer like the life we've built - or maybe even who we've become while living it. We may even know we should like it, but somehow it no longer fits. I build relationships with clients, creating a safe place to express and explore these feelings. Therapy creates change by examining the experiences, patterns, thoughts, and energy that contribute to feeling stuck. I love working with clients to address the issues holding them back so they can create a life and self that excites them again.

The anxiety disorders that I treat include separation anxiety, OCD , social anxiety, generalized anxiety, PTSD, and phobias, such as emetophobia.
I enjoy working with children through adults who are dealing with anxiety that is interfering with their day to day lives, whether that’s a college-age guy who has started having panic attacks, a 3rd grader who’s having a hard time going to school without tears, or a mom with kids who is struggling with emetophobia. My clients tend to have moderate to severe anxiety and often struggle with perfectionism, guilt, and shame. They want greater understanding of their particular anxiety, practical, evidence-based help, and a compassionate “coach” to guide them in the process.

I specialize in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and provide Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy.
I look forward to working with clients that are highly motivated and ready for change. I have been able to treat individuals with challenging symptoms who may not have been properly diagnosed and subsequently, have not received appropriate treatment. The majority of my clients do not have a healthy way to cope with intrusive and sometimes disturbing thoughts. The therapy I provide empowers clients with the skills needed to feel in control of their anxiety, impulsiveness and unhealthy habits. My clients will learn how to manage unwanted thoughts and to abandon coping through rituals, escape and avoidance behaviors.

I specialize in the treatment of most anxiety symptoms and disorders as they manifest in adults and adolescents, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive /intrusive thoughts and excessive worry, social anxiety, test and performance anxiety, OCD and agoraphobia.
Ever increasing levels of stress and anxiety are commonplace in modern life. We have become so accustomed to living in this chronic state of hyper arousal that we now consider it to be a "normal" baseline of daily functioning. Unfortunately, for many this state of increased anxiety can begin to feel debilitating, demoralizing, and inescapable. It's hard to describe the feelings of hopelessness and isolation that those who suffer from severe anxiety face. It can wreak havoc on our most important relationships, limit our ability to grow, to be authentic, playful and creative, flexible, empathic and patient with ourselves and others.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
