It can feel like you were given a different social playbook than everyone else. Trying to keep up at work while managing friendships and family expectations can feel like a constant performance, leaving you depleted. This pressure often leads to a cycle of social burnout, persistent anxiety, and feeling completely misunderstood. You might wonder why balancing it all feels so draining, or if you'll ever find a rhythm that doesn't lead to exhaustion.

It’s difficult enough to figure out what you want. But saying it out loud to a partner? That can be even scarier. What if we don’t want the same things? Or, worse still, what if I hurt them? Does any of this sound familiar? Many people live in silence to avoid the pain of hurting another. But at some point that backs up on you. Therapy is your place to give voice to those feelings and decide what, if anything, you want to do with them..

My Group Practice is accepting clients for kids/teens and adults! You're here because you've had enough. It's exhausting to feel so stressed, anxious or on edge every day. Maybe you've tried a therapist or two in the past and they just kinda let you talk about your problems without truly helping, so you feel as crappy as you did when you began. If you are ready to dive deeper into what's going on and get at the root of the issue so that you can finally get your life back to normal, we are ready to work with you! You need an expert to help you process out what's keeping you stuck in order to become your best self.

I employ evidence-based therapeutic practices, such as Behavioral Activation, Exposure and Response Prevention, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness, and various techniques within Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
It is my passion to help others by working together to address life’s difficulties, stressors, and especially the internal mental battles that can make each day feel overwhelming, or perhaps downright impossible. Through my 11 years in the field, I have worked with individuals ages 8-90 from a variety of different backgrounds, and it is my priority to meet each person where they are at in life with an empathetic ear and an open mind.

I work with families who have experienced a variety of traumas in my work at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Much of the that job involves counseling parents who have lost an infant or child, or who have a child with chronic health problems, or whose child has a life threatening condition. In addition, couples who try to have another child after a loss have specific needs. When interventions are available to address the trauma of child illness or death right away, we can sometimes reduce the severity of the struggles with their trauma.

If you’re reading this, chances are your mind rarely gives you a break. Maybe you obsess over germs, get stuck in mental loops, or picture worst-case scenarios every time you think about flying. You try all the skills...like logic, distraction, and likely even been to therapy—but the anxious loop keeps pulling you back in. Avoiding what scares you works for a moment, but it’s also keeping your life smaller than you want it to be. You’re craving relief that lasts—skills that actually work in the heat of the moment—so you can stop overthinking, show up for the people you love, and feel confident doing the things that matter to you.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
