I AM NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS AT THIS TIME. I have 25+ years of working with pregnant & postpartum women struggling with mood issues, as well as people transitioning to different life stages, dealing with Anxiety, Depression, adjustments to chronic illness and family identity changes. Much of the work in therapy is about loss and how that affects one's sense of self. We work together to form a realistic plan for improving your life situation that brings about improvement in symptoms quickly.

Welcome. My hope is that through your experience in therapy, whether this is your first time or you've been in therapy before, you find a fresh and open place for healing in your life. My approach begins by building an honest relationship with you that enables us to process your story. Whatever is uncovered along the way: grief, joy, disappointment, confusion, anger, freedom, trauma, loss, strength, creativity, humor... the mosaic will be uniquely yours.

Relationships are how we heal and learn about ourselves. Whatever is bringing you to therapy, you are not alone and I am so excited to meet you and join you on this journey. Together we will prioritize your goals, and what you hope to focus on in therapy. I am a verbal, expressive person and therapist. I work well with people who want more engagement and feedback on the part of the therapist. Whatever experiences in the world we might share, and whichever ones we don’t, I’m excited to learn about you and build a therapeutic relationship together.

My clients tend to be creative over-achievers who need support to make positive changes for enhancing their personal and professional lives. I specialize in substance use disorders and/or mental health issues with an emphasis on co-occurring disorders. Exploring life satisfaction in the 8 dimensions of wellness is one approach I use to identify potential areas for change. Tapping into intrinsic motivation is a primary focus of treatment as we work collaboratively to identify strengths and set/implement goals.

I offer therapy for people looking for compassion, accountability, & even humor in their therapy journey. Leaning into my own life experiences, I aim to be radically curious about your unique perspectives and adaptations to life’s challenges. Through conversation we will examine patterns, explore values, clarify emotions, and sit with the complexity and duality within each person and the world around us. I welcome open conversations about race, gender, class, power, & sexuality. I invite exploration of how history, systems, and forces like current events & pop culture shape your life and inform your mental health & relationships.

I think effective therapy begins with empathy and authenticity. Empathy means I’m going to really hear you. I create a welcoming and safe place where you can share and unload your heavy emotional burdens - where you can be honest about your struggles and your hopes - where we can talk honestly and frankly about meaningful solutions.

**Please note: E-Mail strongly preferred** Defining oneself and discovering your own inner truth in the face of adversity can be challenging. I can say from personal experience that psychotherapy was immensely helpful on that journey. One of my goals in life is to pay it forward by joining others on their quest.

Sometimes life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, making it seem as if we have little control over the path our lives are taking. Trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, low self-esteem, and other life challenges can make ordinary life difficult to navigate. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment that allows my clients to gain mastery over their situation rather than allowing their circumstances to run their lives. My therapeutic approach is culturally sensitive, collaborative, unique to each client, and focuses on client strengths.

Taking therapy outside into nature allows access to powerful resources to help you address your goals, increase emotional and physical well-being and promote healing and resilience. In this practice my colleagues and I meet outside year-round in the South Minneapolis area, walking along the creek or river, sitting under a favorite pine tree or on a bench by the lake, with the option of telehealth when the weather is unsafe or just too cold. My style is supportive, warm, playful and experiential. We can address attachment difficulties, emotional and behavioral regulation, stress, anxiety, depression, grief and trauma.

How can I find a therapist in Minneapolis?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
