Coming to therapy can feel overwhelming, I prioritize a warm, somatic-based approach with the understanding that healing happens at the rate of trust. The development of a therapeutic relationship is deep work, I am honored to join clients in unpacking stuck parts, heavy experiences, and successes. I support clients in holding themselves with tenderness and power. I draw from Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Human Development, and Mindfulness to support clients by integrating body and mind in processing trauma.

People come to therapy for many reasons. In the first few sessions, I want to get to know you--what you are struggling with, your hopes and fears for the future, what seems to be getting in the way, what strengths and assets you bring. Together, we arrive at a plan, identifying your goals, sources of distress, and how best to work toward symptom relief and greater satisfaction with life and relationships. My approach integrates several treatment modalities, including psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based therapies, life-span developmental approaches, attachment theory, family and couples therapy.

I bring a wealth of professional, educational and life experience to my work with people aged 18-64 facing the challenges and transitions of life. I endeavor to provide caring and personalized therapeutic support for those navigating health, relationship, professional, identity, grief/loss and other issues. My view is that some challenges call for patience, while others call for creative efforts to resolve...and perhaps the remainder of life's challenges ask us to reconcile to our changed circumstances and find a way forward that also allows for a renewed sense of wellbeing and peace.

I am an LPCC Candidate in counseling psychology from Adler University. My presence as a therapist is empathic and gentle. In addition to being psychoanalytically-informed, I utilize a somatic approach that focuses on feeling safe in your body throughout therapy. Learning to listen to our body's needs allows us to heal. In my work with couples, I find it essential to focus on how individuals can be authentic in the relationship yet feel belonging and significance with their partner. If your concern is complex trauma or simply needing help adjusting to life changes, I would be honored to work with you through the process.

I am an LPCC candidate in the counseling psychology program at the University of St. Mary’s in Minneapolis. I view psychotherapy as a partnership where together we explore your unique thoughts, feelings, habits and struggles; finding solutions together that work for you. My approach focuses on understanding the deeper patterns and experiences that influence how you see yourself and move through the world. We will examine closely the situation into which you were born and consider what you had to adapt yourself to in order to survive. With this thorough understanding of the past, we can then find ways to make changes

As an openly polyamorous-queer-gender expansive person, I’ve spent most of my life experiencing microaggressions & unlearning the cisnormative & hetronormative messages that constantly tell us we are defective, broken, or unwanted. They are wrong! We are fabulous, vibrant & deserving, of all the gifts the world has to offer. I became a therapist to share what I’ve learned, bring healing, & advocate for queer/trans youth, young adults & their families while working for social justice & full inclusion into society. Our work will be in a safe, affirming space so we can collaborate to create & implement a road map to your recovery.

It is my role to work with your motivation & continue to foster this growth towards positive change. I operate from a person-centered approach, which emphasizes being genuine, providing unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding in the efforts to foster our therapeutic connection to enhance this emotional & powerful relationship.

I work mainly from a person-centered, solution-focused and strengths-based approach, frequently pulling in skills from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing & relational techniques. I believe that regardless of what you were born into, or the tragedies or hardships that you have accumulated over time, healing and thriving is possible. That process isn’t easy - it can be messy and it can take a lot of work, but it is possible.

As someone who has often felt like the "black sheep" in my own family, I understand the complexities of identity, belonging, and the challenges of navigating life’s transitions. It’s this experience that led me to pursue a career in therapy, with a mission to help others feel seen, heard, and understood. I am passionate about working with individuals, couples, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. I believe in the importance of integrating mental health into the unique fabric of each person’s life without trying to change their core essence.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?

Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
