Are you a teenager or young adult struggling to find your path in life? Are you still figuring out who you are and what you want out of life? You are not alone. Adolescence is a time of incredible transition and identity formation, and can be stressful and confusing. Despite how challenging this time is and that fact that our frontal lobe has not fully developed, we are asked to make some of the most important decisions of our lives (academic, occupational, relational, vocational). Adolescence and young adults often struggle with anxiety, depression, past trauma, substance use, and identity formation.

I’ve taught classes to teach parents with cancer how to help their children cope, and trained in Imago Couples Therapy for struggling couples.
Many people are finding life more difficult these days. There is often so much to deal with in our personal lives, add the impact of world events and it can all just be too much. Having someone to listen and support you can make a big difference in coping with your struggles and not feeling alone. I’ve never met anyone that doesn’t like being listened to and understood. My focus in therapy is to help you get relief from your pain and explore ways to cope with life’s ongoing challenges.

I specialize in helping couples, families, and other kinds of relationships repair after ruptures, find harmony, and figure out how to make sustainable, enjoyable changes in their lives. I especially enjoy working with individuals, couples, and family dynamics (such as parent-adult children and adult sibling relationships). I help folks get unstuck by identifying unhelpful patterns, exploring stuckness, and helping people learn new ways of connecting to one another.

You might’ve tried traditional talk therapy and still feel stuck—anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure why certain patterns won’t shift. Maybe you’re high-functioning on the outside but carrying tension, burnout, or old wounds that won’t budge. You’re thoughtful, sensitive, and craving something deeper—something that goes beyond coping skills and talks to your whole self, not just your thoughts.

At Good Human Work, we're a group practice with multiple licensed therapists who excel at supporting individuals, couples, and families. Each GHW therapist has experience and extensive training, leads with compassion, & will focus on your goals. See their bios on our website! We believe that making the choice to engage in therapy is not a sign of weakness. We’d argue that choosing to directly deal with stressors is actually a sign of incredible strength. Life is crazy, and we’re not pre-programmed with all the answers. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed and unclear on how to make things better.

Everyone should have a safe space to find and unveil their authentic self. That is my goal for everyone to feel invited into this space to share fears and insecurities without judgment. Our own mental health journeys can feel lonely at times as we feel isolated from those around us and all we want is a sense of control. By exploring our authentic selves we can find parts of ourselves hidden or lost through anxiety, trauma, or societal expectations. I strive for every client to feel welcomed into this safe space to see what parts of selves they connect with most.

Are you interested in exploring your unconscious? My approach is rooted in depth psychology, meaning that I prioritize the unconscious; somatics, meaning that trauma lives in the body and I believe there is no such thing as insight at the intellectual level; and feminist theory, meaning that I believe that what is happening at the level of the individual (you) is a reflection of the dynamics of your small group (your family of origin). I also adopt a relational approach, and I believe we can understand human behavior through attachment and connection.

Imago Therapists
How does Imago therapy work?
Imago relationship therapy is a form of couples counseling meant to help partners address conflict, communication problems, and related issues. Imago sessions typically involve couples sitting facing each other and participating in guided conversations. Therapy will also involve exercises such as re-imagining one’s partner as a wounded child; re-romanticizing a relationship through appreciation, surprises, and even gift-giving and restructuring frustrations by transforming complaints into requests. The ultimate goal is to re-envision the relationship as a source of safety and happiness.

What is the Imago method?
A core technique of Imago therapy is the Imago dialogue, in which partners learn to avoid hurtful statements and establish ways to interact based on each having equal space and power. In the dialogue, partners take turns as the “sender,” who shares their thoughts, and the “receiver.” The receiver is asked to “mirror,” or paraphrase, what their partner has said, without response or rebuttal, and then validate their statements, acknowledging understanding even if they do not personally agree with it. Finally, the receiver displays empathy by stating what they imagine the other is feeling, and showing appreciation for it.

How long does Imago therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for Imago therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core techniques of Imago coaching, some couples quickly make progress, but most should expect sessions to extend for months, encompassing at least 12 to 20 sessions, along with extensive “homework” from their therapist.

Does Imago therapy work?
There is limited empirical evidence to support the benefits of Imago therapy, but some smaller studies suggest that it does help couples, at least in the short-term. A 2017 study found that marital satisfaction increased significantly after couples completed 12 sessions of Imago therapy, and remained higher for some time after that, but did not always result in “complete recovery.” Other studies found greater empathy and fewer feelings of relationship burnout in couples after therapy. Some research suggests that Imago therapy can aid individuals as well as couples; people with ADHD in particular may benefit from the development of communication, self-control, and listening skills that form the basis of the technique.
