No matter what you do to stop the cycle of having affairs, falling in love with the wrong people, having emotional or sexual affairs, or creating fantasy relationships in your head, you find yourself right back where you started. You feel like you've lost control and have a constant war going on in your head. You are sick of the stress you're under to constantly hide your phone because you don't want your partner to find out about this second life. I can help you get off your current rollercoaster. Together we can find the roots of why you keep doing things that make your life unbearable.

Forensic psychology is a very broad area that combines the legal (civil and criminal) world with the psychological world.
I specialize in forensic (legal) evaluations. I most often work with individuals involved in some aspect of the legal system. Though my specialty is the assessment of men and women accused or convicted of sexual offenses, I also have broad-based experience in competency and diminished capacity evaluations, assessment of mentally ill and dangerous persons, and violence risk assessment. I also do trial consultation for the military. Most of my referrals come from the courts and attorneys, though I encourage potential clients to contact me to discuss my services.

A mirror allows us to see ourselves; however, sometimes that mirror becomes distorted through chronic stress or repeated life experiences that overwhelm our ability to cope. Over time, this can shape how we see ourselves, how we handle stress, and how we show up in relationships. I believe therapy can help create a clearer, more accurate reflection—one that supports real, sustainable change and a healthier, more balanced life.

There is purpose in your stress. There is purpose in your pain. Life is filled with constant transitions that are not always easy to navigate or successfully complete. Many people are not aware of how much impact their current environment, past events, and social pressures have on their daily lives. The idea of walking through life without support to heal or reflect can be exhausting. Often you may not be able to identify the exhaustion, stress, or pain but just know that something is “off”? So I ask ... do you today, right now, feel like you are living your best life? If not, the Helm Academy is a great place to begin therapy.

Everyone has periods in their life when they struggle, and often there are layers of contributing factors. My goal when working with people in therapy is to help them build their autonomy, whether that means finding ways to peel away the layers, build a toolkit of skills to help manage their symptoms and experiences, or find the meaning behind their struggles and reassign new meaning that works better for them. If you are struggling, or if you would like to know more, please contact me and we can get started! You are a consumer, and if you feel we are not a good fit, I am more than happy to help you find someone who works better!

I am a seasoned therapist of approximately 20 years helping individuals and relationships work through challenges experienced in life. At times we can feel lost, alone, misunderstood, angry or afraid. We may be struggling with the stigma of asking for help, especially from a complete stranger in therapy! I have experience helping people work through life changes, conflict, substance use issues, feelings of abandonment or betrayal. I have helped individuals in corporate lifestyles work through organizational psychology and business management, those struggling with homelessness, job loss, financial stress and more.

I believe counseling is my calling in life because I've had mentors and coaches that have impacted my life for the better. But more importantly, I've also experienced some challenging failures. I've taught and counseled hundreds of individuals and empowered them to grow into the best versions of themselves. I provide candid and honest feedback to my clients that is designed to help propel them forward to self actualization and success.

In life there are many things that create a sense of being stuck, something that prevents us from moving forward and living our best lives. Whether it is childhood trauma, trauma that occurred later in life, or transitions that are difficult to navigate, people often times need support in managing their symptoms. By rewiring the brain, we can find ourselves feeling less reactive and more responsive to the day to day stressors of our lives.

Forensic Psychology Therapists
How does forensic psychology work?
Forensic psychology works by providing those in the legal system with expert information about psychology and behavior that they wouldn’t otherwise have. Forensic psychologists do this through a range of services—conducting psychological assessments for court cases, assisting police officers with investigations, providing expert opinion, helping with mediation, and providing mental health care to victims or perpetrators of crimes.

Can a forensic psychologist help with child custody cases?
Yes. In the event that it’s needed, an attorney or judge may appoint a forensic psychologist to provide an assessment and recommendation. This process involves multiple interviews with the child, the parent (or parents), and sometimes others. The psychologist assesses the parent’s mental health, strengths and weaknesses, and parenting practices to understand what’s in the child’s best interest. They then complete a report with recommendations based on their assessment.

Do forensic psychologists help solve crimes?
In some cases they do. For example, criminal profiling involves collaborating with law enforcement officers to construct a profile of a perpetrator based on psychology, personality, and behavior as suggested by the crime in order to focus the investigation. They may also offer expert input on subjects related to a case such as deception, false confessions, and the reliability of testimony based on eyewitness accounts.

How long do people typically work with a forensic psychologist?
The length of time an individual works with a forensic psychologist depends on the relevant service. For example, if a forensic psychologist is conducting a psychological assessment for a court case, this may take one to two sessions to complete (although they can be more extensive). If the forensic psychologist is providing therapy to someone accused or convicted of a crime, treatment may last for several months or more.
