I'm a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and an
EFT
Couples Therapist, and I'm passionate about supporting folks in embodying their personal power. I utilize deep emotional attunement between partners to promote understanding, and I work with the unconscious to understand barriers to growth with both individuals and couples. With couples, I support each partner in communicating their truths while developing a new language to understand the negative pattern that leads to escalation or collapse. Together we will use mindfulness to understand what's happening in the moment and so I can learn what supports you best.

Couples therapy is my passion. Given the chaos and the way in which human relationships are being undermined in our world today, I feel this work is particularly needed. As far as human happiness goes, I see time and time again that it is the quality of a person’s relationships that makes it or breaks it. This is really the foundation of my couples therapy practice. More than ever, the world needs couples who have each other’s backs, and can bring empathy and intelligent action into the world.

My greatest joy is to help people find their inner voice and personal power. Trained in
Emotionally Focused
Therapy, I work with both individuals and couples. Looking at attachment patterns that are unconsciously learned in childhood, we will see where and how those patterns play out in your life and how they hold you in unhealthy beliefs. Together, we will unravel the thought processes that thrive in judgment, scarcity, blame, and fear. I truly believe the healing process toward change occurs once YOU gain insight into yourself.

I see life as a mosaic of experiences, and we all do the best we can with what we know at the time. But sometimes, anxiety, depression or the simple challenges of daily life can hold people back from living the fullest, best story of their life. My goal as a therapist is to explore and bring to light a person’s inner strengths, so they can overcome their personal obstacles and enjoy better, more productive lives and relationships. Everyone, regardless of life’s stumbles, deserves the best life they can imagine, and my goal is to walk with them and help them along this journey.

In addition to talk therapy, I use a variety of proven therapeutic approaches such as EMDR,
EFT
tapping, Flash technique, Brainspotting, CBT and mindfulness.
Are you struggling with emotional and/or relationship issues and not sure how to deal with them? Seeking help is not easy and I recognize it takes courage to take that first step to reach out to a professional. For that reason, I use gentle, compassionate, and affirming methods to create a safe environment and work at a pace that is most comfortable to you. Sometimes it’s easy to talk about the issues and at other times, it feels too private or painful to reveal. When memories are too painful to share I can even work with them silently. I also incorporate many holistic approaches, honoring the mind, body and spirit connection.

I have been a practicing mental health professional for the past 26 years of which the last 10 years have been as a licensed psychotherapist. My therapy model is based on the Biblical concept of guarding our minds or better said, controlling our thoughts to better regulate our emotions and behaviors. Who is emotionally focused therapy for?
Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.
Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?
People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.
What happens in emotionally focused therapy?
Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.
What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?
EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
