I am comfortable working with adolescents, adults, couples , and families in need.
Have you been feeling lost, confused, stuck, or without some sense of control in life? You are not alone, as many of us have been where you are and felt how you feel. Seeking help from a therapist can be the key to finding passion in life, learning new ways of overcoming obstacles, and begin experiencing a more desired way of being. Therapy with me emphasizes fostering a safe, nonjudgmental, compassionate environment. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients where problems are explored through a lens of curiosity, and space is created for new perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors in the healing process.

Mindful self-awareness, the therapeutic relationship , and the connection between your mind and body are used as platforms for growth.
Life hands us many experiences, some of which can be difficult to handle on our own. Whether you are struggling with issues beyond your control or with difficult aspects of your emotional experience, often healing is needed in order to feel content with life. Together we can identify what's contributing to current difficulties / dissatisfaction and then we can work together to develop your whole self, leading to a more balanced and content you.

My collaborative approach with individuals and couples strives to understand where we come from, why we do what we do, where we are going, and how we can get there. Through our work together, we can explore what gives you a personal sense of meaning and purpose in the world, and how you can make lasting change in your life.

I have experience with individuals (16+) who experience trauma, abuse, relationship concerns, depression, grief/loss, anxiety, emotion management, low self-esteem, and identity concerns.
We have a natural tendency to try to make meaning of our experiences. When we experience something that doesn't make sense, we can feel stuck, especially when old ways of coping aren't best serving us anymore.

I work primarily with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship distress, obsessive compulsive disorder, and life transitions. My number one goal in therapy is to understand you as best I can, and to help you do the same. Individuals who have some amount of curiosity about themselves and who are willing to self-reflect will do well in this type of therapy. My practice is informed by psychodynamic, relational, feminist, multicultural, and exposure-based theories. The first step is to build a trusting relationship with you so that you can feel comfortable expressing all the different parts of you.

My work is rooted in a life-long desire to understand more fully who we are and why we are who we are. I work to help clients reflect on patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving, reacting emotionally, struggling with internal conflicts, and using psychological defenses that seem to protect but are often limiting and out of conscious awareness. My training is rooted in Family Systems Theory, Relational Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Psychodynamic Theory, Attachment Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Neuroscience. I believe that each person I work with is unique and we have to have a relationship that fosters safety and trust.

You can grow through crisis and challenge! As a psychologist and family therapist I am interested in the family dynamics that have contributed to the issues my clients are facing. I'm especially interested in couples ' issues because it's such a challenge to live with someone who inevitably brings up your issues. I'm a seasoned therapist, originally trained as a music therapist, who works with a wide range of issues from personal coaching to parenting, from depression/anxiety to spiritual growth. My view is that every crisis and difficult issue is an opportunity for personal growth.

I love to work with couples and families.
I've been a psychotherapist for over 40 years. What I have found is the most powerfull tool is the relationships I develop with my clients which are often deeply meaningful, based on understanding the depth of the person, often extending to the inclusion of spiritual experience. I am a fully trained marriage and family therapist, and I have graduated from the Minnesota Psychoanalytic Institute as a certified Psychoanalyst. The American Psychoanalytic Institute has awarded me the status of a Training and Supervising Analyst, the highest level of certification awarded. I want to help people find their own sense of truth.

I specialize in psychotherapy for men, women, couples and older adolescents.
Through the process of psychotherapy, I work together with my clients to help them: develop a better understanding of their histories, triggers and patterns in order to get unstuck and create new endings to old stories; build coping skills and capacity for resiliency in order to face stressors and fears that are blocking growth; learn to live authentically in order to create a life congruent with what matters to them. I feel passionate about my work. I always hope to help people realize their worth and competency so they can feel empowered to take charge of their lives and live with more purpose and fulfillment.

While healing is a process that unfolds over time, relief from distress is often more within reach than people first realize. I want to offer my support as you refine your experience of yourself, and of being in the world. There are as many models to explain how people change as there are therapists, and I see my role as helping you to craft a model that leverages your existing strengths and insight. Above all, my goal is to inspire confidence that health is possible and to provide encouragement as you generate the movement that propels you, your relationship , or your family, forward into health.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
