I am passionate about working with youth, adults, and couples.
My personal life journey has led me to a career of service to others. I taught high school English classes before moving to work as a school counselor. I am well-read and traveled, believing both experiences can unlock a deeper understanding of one’s self and one's voice. It is my aim to navigate life with you as we meet.

Whether you're dealing with relationship frustrations or personal issues, it's difficult to wonder if things can get better - and to think you should be able to figure it out on your own.
I work with couples to fine-tune communication and build closeness. Learn to listen wholeheartedly. Either soften your approach to express your desires and limits effectively, or strengthen your delivery so your partner can hear your true needs. It's demoralizing to slog through fights - I'll teach you to share things productively and feel closer.

I believe we are created for a life of joy and fulfillment. However, our experiences can adversely impact our ability to experience this. While at times, friends and family can offer enough support, there are moments when the help of a professional is needed. Whether it be depression or anxiety or more complex issues like trauma and ADHD, a therapist can be a trusted companion on your healing journey. As a therapist, I offer a listening ear free of judgment. I use my training and life experience to help guide you in a process of healing and growth that brings mindfulness and grounding to your every day life.

You’ve begun to notice your symptoms and how they’ve strained relationships, clouded your confidence, and affected the way you engage with the world.
Taking a psychodynamic approach, I encourage exploration of both the conscious and unconscious mind to gain a deeper understanding of the symptoms you’re experiencing. I listen in a way that can reveal the unconscious. My approach doesn’t just focus on surface level interventions but allows room for depth so we can really get to the root of the problem.

As a therapist for individuals and couples, I provide a safe setting to develop self-awareness and understanding, and to explore a wider range of emotions.
Couples frequently come to therapy when they are in crisis, or stuck and near-hopeless. We work to improve communication, satisfaction, and functioning as a couple. In a strong relationship both partners support each other's healing and growth as a person, so we strive to activate this.

I’m a relational therapist, so we’ll talk about the important relationships in your life - the people who make life challenging - and the folks who you turn to for support and rebuilding.
I think effective therapy begins with empathy and authenticity. Empathy means I’m going to really hear you. I create a welcoming and safe place where you can share and unload your heavy emotional burdens - where you can be honest about your struggles and your hopes - where we can talk honestly and frankly about meaningful solutions.

Using a feminist, anti-racist, trauma-informed, gender & sexuality affirming lens, I empower individuals and couples struggling with anxiety, shame, low self-esteem & communication issues to find deep, wholehearted contentedness and inner-freedom.
Do you feel unable to find inner-peace due to the intense shame manifesting as high expectations, body-image issues, or struggles in your relationships? If you intellectualize, say "yes" to avoid conflict, beat yourself up over your "mistakes" from the day...you're in the right place.

I have a special interest in working with clients who are: curious about themselves and the world; longing to feel at home in their body; seeking relief from perfectionism or from unhelpful habitual cycles; interested in deconstruction work; navigating religious trauma or purity culture; or hoping to build stronger, richer relationships.
Hi, I'm Emma (she/they)! I'm a strong believer that our bodies hold inherent wisdom and that they are trustworthy. I also believe that the stories we tell ourselves shape our realities, and that therapy is a unique and powerful exploration of those stories. I dream of co-creating a therapeutic environment where you can take up space, breathe a sigh of relief, and be courageous in your exploration of yourself. I utilize a somatic parts work approach, with a foundation in embodiment and the impacts of our developmental experiences. I’m also a brainspotting practitioner, and utilize this modality to support somatic trauma processing.

Together, we develop practical skills to improve emotional well-being, build resilience, and foster more functional relationships.
My therapeutic approach focuses on the dynamic relationship between mental health and communication. Stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and life challenges often affect how we communicate with ourselves and others, creating strain within families, workplaces, friendships, and other important systems.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
