Therapists for Teens and Adolescents in Minneapolis, MN
The journey of facing our fears and connecting to our true calm self is a path I have been walking as a human and as a clinician. Learning how to look within and find those parts and aspects of ourself that need healing and attention has been my internal and external focus. One of the aspects I strive for is being free of past trauma, experiences and fears that now are barriers to living a glorious life.

It's also worth mentioning, sometimes, we do not have a clear understanding of where we want life to go (but we might know that it's not working). Maybe we have a vague idea, but have trouble taking steps that bring us closer to where we want to be. Or maybe we are doing too much, leading us to feel like we have little control in life.

I understand that healing is not absolute. Emotions can resurface around experiences you once thought you had healed. I’m here to walk through those moments with you—at your pace—while honoring you. Your healing is a deeply personal journey, and I’m here to support you as you reconnect with your inner wisdom. You are your own best healer. A healer is not someone that you go to for healing. A healer is someone who activates within you your own ability to heal yourself. As an empathy-based therapist, I’m here to connect with your energy and offer guidance throughout your unique healing process.

People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. A common reason for beginning therapy is that some aspect of life does not feel as though it is working leaving you feeling frustrated, anxious, or unfulfilled. I enjoy working with people who have had successes in life, yet struggle to maintain happiness, energy, and a positive self-view. We work together to identify problems, both current and past, and new ways of working through them. I focus on the whole person in order to help people live their life in a way that feels whole, integrated, and satisfying.

I specialize in working with Spanish speaking individuals, LGBTQIA, and neurodivergent adults and adolescents; Neurodivergent experiences, including ADHD and Autism; Trauma and its effects on emotional wellbeing; Chronic Pain and the impacts of mind-body connection on daily functioning; Anxiety, Depression, stress, and self-esteem in daily life.
Together, we can rewrite the narratives you have been taught, heal from past trauma, and find acceptance in who you are. Navigating the world is challenging especially if you are neurodivergent, are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, have experienced trauma, are struggling to manage your mental health, or speak Spanish. It can be even more challenging when you need to hide who you are. Managing having an invisible disability, chronic pain, experiencing discrimination, struggling with depression or anxiety, or not being accepted can often feel overwhelming. Even with all of these challenges, there is still the possibility for change.

Many of the people I work with are quietly exhausted in ways that are hard to explain, not in crisis, but carrying a persistent sense that something essential remains just out of reach. They may feel more at home in their own minds than in most relationships, find themselves watching life from a slight distance, or live with a low-grade grief whose source is difficult to name. They are often thoughtful, even perceptive about others, while remaining strangely opaque to themselves. They are not always sure they believe therapy can reach what most needs reaching.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
