You may feel exhausted by the constant thoughts about food, body image, control, or self-worth. Maybe your eating disorder began as a way to cope, stay safe, feel in control, or manage overwhelming emotions...but now it feels like it’s taken over your life. What people see on the outside may not match the disconnection, anxiety, and shame you feel on the inside. Many of the clients I work with have spent years criticizing themselves, minimizing their pain, or feeling disconnected from their bodies and emotions.

When working with neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, and young adult clients, I don't shy away from those who struggle with traditional power dynamics. I embrace clients’ need for their autonomy to be respected and honored in our sessions. I have a genuine curiosity to learn about others’ experiences, and a desire to co-create with my clients what our sessions will look and feel like. I enjoy working with older teens and adults who are struggling to find their identity, those who have experienced trauma or attachment disruptions, and autistic clients - particularly those with PDA traits.

You're not crazy! Relationships are hard and they require hard work. They can also be extremely rewarding and worth all the work. Therapy is quite similar. Do you need help to bring the spark back into your marriage? Heal your relationship after an affair? Work through painful or traumatic memories? Help coping with life cycle transitions? Develop better communication? As your therapist I will support you in achieving these goals by encouraging and respectfully challenging you in order to create the change you are seeking through therapy.

Have you found yourself in a space you didn't expect—through a cancer diagnosis, illness, divorce, a DNA surprise, loss, or a shift that changed everything you thought you knew? Maybe the ground has moved, and you're unsure who you are now or where you're going next. Or things look fine outside, while something inside feels quietly off or unrecognizable. I see each client as a universe—complex, layered, and entirely unique. The question is never "what works for people like you?" but "what do you, specifically, need?" We figure that out together.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
