Most clients have anxiety and/or depression, often with co-occurring Trauma, ADHD, or other neurological symptoms.
Does it feel like your mind never slows down, leaving you overwhelmed and unsure how to move forward? Many of my clients come to therapy feeling weighed down by anxiety, relationship struggles, or long-standing emotional pain. You may feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, exhaustion, or low motivation, and wonder why things feel so difficult right now. What you’re really looking for is clarity, understanding, and a place where you can finally sort through what’s been building inside. Therapy can offer the support and perspective needed to begin healing and moving toward a more balanced, fulfilling life.

I specialize in helping individuals heal from eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, and depression through a compassionate, whole-person approach.
The goal of our first session is to start building a relationship. For some, this means diving into your story and getting a deeper picture of what life has been like for you. For others, this looks like easing into things and moving at whatever pace feels effective for you.

You may feel exhausted by the constant thoughts about food, body image, control, or self-worth. Maybe your eating disorder began as a way to cope, stay safe, feel in control, or manage overwhelming emotions...but now it feels like it’s taken over your life. What people see on the outside may not match the disconnection, anxiety, and shame you feel on the inside. Many of the clients I work with have spent years criticizing themselves, minimizing their pain, or feeling disconnected from their bodies and emotions.

I'm here to help you get to the next steps in your emotional health journey. Whether it's your first time seeking therapy or you're returning for a tune-up, I'm glad you're here and ready to meet you where you are at. I know it has taken a lot of thought, energy, and planning to be here now, looking for the right help. During our first session, I can usually give us a good idea of where we could focus in therapy for deeper understanding, if you don't already have a trailhead to explore (e.g. family of origin issues, stress, relationships, personal growth, etc.).

I provide therapeutic solutions to adults and teenagers that are struggling with relationships, low self-worth, high levels of anxiety and depression.
I am trained in the IFS and EMDR therapy models. I am trained in EMDR (through EMDRIA) and IFS Levels 1, 2 and 3. IFS and EMDR work harmoniously together: IFS shows clients how to get in touch with their inner parts and identify imbalances, while EMDR helps clients to re-process traumatic events in a way that lowers the disturbance level.

Hello and welcome! My name is Sam (they/them), and I am so happy you're here. As a queer and non-binary identified provider, I honor how painstakingly difficult it is to exist under oppressive systems, let alone thrive. It can be isolating and scary to navigate this world alone, and I do not think you should have to. Drawing on humanistic and person-centered models of care, I aim to create a non-judgmental and empathetic space where you can bravely define what being your best self means to you. As an artist, I understand creativity's healing, grounding nature and provide art supplies for client use in sessions.

I approach therapy sessions with empathy and curiosity, inviting clients into a collaborative space to slow down, question, and reflect. People feel stuck in difficult patterns, struggle to engage, and criticize themselves for their inability to manage daily stressors and triggers. Central to my therapy practice is creation of a safe environment to process and explore, reconnecting to parts of ourselves we have lost connection with. I have a lasting commitment to training and treatment on trauma, both PTSD and Complex-PTSD (developmental, attachment, relational trauma). My website is www.honeyruncounseling.com for more information.

Depression Therapists
What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
