My style is to support you in connecting with and understanding your deepest agendas and to facilitate the expansion of your capacity to live authentically, with all the parts of yourself. Many people have an intuition of when it's time to make changes, but are uncertain about how to do this, or where to begin. I'll help you generate the right conditions for change by first working to thoroughly understand your inner landscape, and what it’s like to be you. I'll assist you in refining your own instruction manual, find a useful balance between self-acceptance and self-discipline, and live a life with more self-compassion.

I've been working with adults and teens for over 45 years. My approach is empathic, direct, and thoughtful. Given I have a wide background in my training, I adapt my therapeutic approach to your needs. I find that effective therapy is a collaborative approach where we work together to understand your concerns, their origins and most importantly what can be done to bring about both the internal and behavioral changes that will be beneficial to you. My goal in therapy is to help integrate your shame and vulnerabilities into a healthy identity grounded in self-esteem and pride.

Satisfying relationships, personal fulfillment, and vocational flourishing are essential components to a joyful life. Trauma, self-doubt, anxiety and insecurity often stand between us and all of the above. Depending on who you are, being in therapy might be a practical and strategic process, for others a deeply emotional and interpersonal one. As I enjoy working with clients from all walks of life, I take a flexible and curious approach to attend to my clients' specific needs in the therapy process. Ultimately, my goal as a therapist is to support you in caring for yourself more deeply and personally in all aspects of life.

However, areas of special focus include parent development, adolescent development and mental health, couple's and family relationships, trauma, shame, regret and remorse,
self esteem
, addictions, parenting, life transitions, depression and anxiety.
Life is difficult. Feeling better is possible. We all have the right and the ability to feel some peace and acceptance about our lives; the things we can control and the things we can not. We may often believe the negative thoughts we have (that we often make up) and act accordingly. You can change your life, your outlook and the way you think and feel about yourself and your relationships. I believe changes and growth occur when an individual is able to challenge their thoughts, examine their perspectives and learn how to be true to themselves.

I provide a safe and secure environment where you can feel safe to share deeply personal thoughts and feelings. My psychodynamic process requires both courage and motivation to change. You will move from where you are to where you want to be. Initial concerns may be about
self esteem
, work or relationships but effective psychodynamic process identifies hidden patterns and themes that cloud the present and hinder the future. Patients describe the process as "empowering" and "life changing", leaving them with increased energy, confidence and creativity for their lives.

My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion and respect. I believe that you are the best expert on yourself, and that my role as a therapist is to create a safe and open space to deepen your awareness of yourself and to explore if, when, and how it might be the right time to make changes in your life.

My greatest assets as a therapist: I quickly conceptualize problems due to years of experience, and am astute at assessment and solutions. I have great relationships with my clients, am non-judgmental, and easy to talk with. I'm empathetic, and give practical, well-reasoned advice with a great sense-of-humor. Few issues are new to me because of my varied experience. People I do best with: Mature people looking for help with all types of issues. Couples who want to improve relationships, change maladaptive behavior, and communicate better.

Understanding the self is the first step toward change. Through compassion, reflection and skill development one has the opportunity to remove obstacles in the form of beliefs, mobilize one's inner resources, reduce suffering and create a more meaningful life. I have worked with adults who have survived trauma/abuse, struggled with problems in mood and thought and experienced self-worth injuries.

I have 35 years of experience helping a wide variety of people find their way to living a richer and more satisfying life. I have a deep respect for the mind and emotional life and believe it's difficult to change without resolving the internal conflicts (which are often out of our awareness) that lead to emotional distress, unwanted behaviors or physical symptoms.

I really love helping people learn to practice new ways of thinking and being in the world and in their relationships. Our need to stay busy in our minds and in our bodies in order to escape difficult feelings creates depression and anxiety and keeps us from healing. I help people slow down and learn how to make a genuine connection to their inner world and begin a journey of healing and hope.

Self Esteem Therapists
Self-esteem lives on a spectrum: Not enough self-regard (or low self esteem) can lead people to become depressed, or to tolerate abusive situations and relationships. Too much self-love (or high self-esteem), results in an off-putting sense of entitlement and an inability to learn from failure. And it's occasionally a sign of clinical narcissism. Quite the opposite of being shy or shyness, yet still on the same spectrum.
