As a marriage and family therapist I specialize in work with individuals and couples who find themselves wrestling with their own brokenness. I am passionate about building healthy connections with my clients and using that platform of trust to help facilitate self-compassion, shame resilience, and healing. I offer a non-judgmental, strength based perspective, in which I work together in a team approach with my clients to help them achieve their goals. I incorporate faith as much or as little as my clients are comfortable with.

In addition to a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, I have a Masters in Theology.
I offer therapy to individuals, couples and families who want a welcoming, safe place to process what is happening within or among them. From clients, I learn how they see the world, how they understand themselves, what patterns create their interactions, and where they want to go from here. Clients are empowered to determine their goals and create new perspectives on themselves and the world around them. The hope is that, during sessions, clients will gain new skills and thought patterns for the benefit of the relationships that give their lives meaning.

You're not crazy! Relationships are hard and they require hard work. They can also be extremely rewarding and worth all the work. Therapy is quite similar. Do you need help to bring the spark back into your marriage ? Heal your relationship after an affair? Work through painful or traumatic memories? Help coping with life cycle transitions? Develop better communication? As your therapist I will support you in achieving these goals by encouraging and respectfully challenging you in order to create the change you are seeking through therapy.

Happiness is not unlimited; however it can feel far away if you're struggling with anxiety, depression, history of trauma/chronic stress, etc. I use a strength based, relational approach for growth and am a strong believer in empowering individuals to take control of their own health & wellness and create the roots for recovery.

People come to therapy for many reasons. In the first few sessions, I want to get to know you--what you are struggling with, your hopes and fears for the future, what seems to be getting in the way, what strengths and assets you bring. Together, we arrive at a plan, identifying your goals, sources of distress, and how best to work toward symptom relief and greater satisfaction with life and relationships. My approach integrates several treatment modalities, including psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based therapies, life-span developmental approaches, attachment theory, family and couples therapy.

Are you not living your life the way you would like to? Is your interpersonal life not what you'd like it to be? Are you unsatisfied in your partner relationship in particular? I believe I can help. As an individual therapist, my goal is to create a safe, trusting, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment in which we can engage in a process of collaborative reflection aimed at helping you become more connected with all parts of your self. In this process, we can work together to understand how and why you relate as you do with yourself and others.

I BELIEVE: 1) It is in the context of relationship that we make the deepest change. 2) We grow and excel in an environment with just the right amount of support & challenge. 3) We must feel understood--by ourselves, yes, and often by another--before we can make change. 4) Engaging in our passions make us come alive. These four core beliefs guide my work as a psychologist, life coach, author, radio host, and performer. Working collaboratively and fostering safe spaces, together we can increase awareness and create experiences that allow our best selves to emerge.

I provide a safe and secure environment where you can feel safe to share deeply personal thoughts and feelings. My psychodynamic process requires both courage and motivation to change. You will move from where you are to where you want to be. Initial concerns may be about self esteem, work or relationships but effective psychodynamic process identifies hidden patterns and themes that cloud the present and hinder the future. Patients describe the process as "empowering" and "life changing", leaving them with increased energy, confidence and creativity for their lives.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
