I will work with you from a base of mindfulness.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a commitment to being in the growth process with my clients. If you are struggling with repetitive and distressing thoughts that often seem illogical, this might be OCD. I work with adolescents and adults who are dealing with OCD issues and are seeking more peace within themselves. I also have personal, lived experience with recovering from the grips of OCD, and I am passionate about helping others.

I incorporate well-being theory, trauma, and mindfulness-based approaches for increasing quality of life.
I help people remember how awesome they truly are. Prior to entering private practice, I spent three years at a leading treatment center where I worked with a variety of people in a variety of unique circumstances. I am passionate about working with clients to improve their sense of self-compassion, and well-being, and transcend maladapted beliefs. My practice and work is inspired by the work of Gabor Mate, Richard Schwartz, and Buddhist Psychology. I am a Master's level pre-mental health licensure professional with experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders.

I believe when working with people you must look at all aspects of their being; the mental, biological, emotional, spiritual, and cultural to address issues being experienced. Our work as therapists is to work as guides, along with the client, to explore deeper issues that are manifesting in their lives. I seek to find an integrative approach with each client that best fits their needs. Providing a safe and empathetic environment, informed by mindfulness, Polyvagal Theory, and other therapeutic theories and methods, I work to empower and develop skills that provide positive change in client’s lives.

We'll use mindfulness practices to deepen awareness as we work together.
I help women use the wisdom of their own bodies to heal from traumas large and small. I believe unrecognized trauma is the core and cause of much suffering women experience in daily life. I also believe, no matter your past experiences or your story, that you have the innate ability to feel whole again.

Together, we'll explore somatic practices, breath work, mindfulness, therapeutic art activities, nature, and traditional talk therapy to uncover the patterns and processes which have held you back, or kept you small.
We're not meant to navigate the hard parts of life alone. If you've been feeling lost, disconnected, disembodied, overwhelmed, stressed out, stretched too thin or like you're just not living the life you envisioned despite your best efforts, I get it. We all need support sometimes. I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate space where you can explore your inner landscapes and embark on healing journeys of self-discovery. I aim to foster your self-awareness, acceptance, and empowerment allowing you deeper access the transformative potential that lies within you.

I have practiced for 36 years in Minnesota, seeing children, adults, couples and families. My practice currently is primarily with adults and couples (and teens) who are seeking a therapist who is collaborative, offers guidance and new perspectives, and believes the client is ultimately in charge of change. I value awareness, mindfulness and the process of living out a personal story that is based on strengths and hopefulness. Above all, I believe that if people feel respected and cared for they are capable of growth and moving through even the most difficult times.

I frequently use mindfulness, mindful self-compassion and mind-body skills.
Many people struggle with symptoms of depression, anxiety or insomnia. Others have difficulty in relationships, are dissatisfied with work or face serious health challenges. And many others struggle to adapt to life changes, or simply feel discouraged or unhappy. I work collaboratively with my clients to target the issues most challenging to them and use evidence-based approaches to improve those problems. I believe that developing a strong relationship with my clients provides the essential base from which sustainable change can be achieved. I am PsyPact certified and can practice telepsychology in those states.

I use person-centered, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness and EMDR modalities to help you achieve your goals.
Seeking change requires risk and risk requires vulnerability. Your first step toward therapeutic change involves courage. You are reaching out and that is not easy. One of my greatest honors as a therapist is being trusted to witness and participate in one’s healing journey. I believe in the importance of developing the therapeutic relationship and creating a space where you are able to be your authentic self.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
