I utilize an AIR Network approach in my work with all clients, and when appropriate I pull in techniques using DBT skills teaching, EMDR processing, prolonged exposure, and a solution focused approach.
I work with adult survivors of childhood trauma who are noticing or are curious to explore the ways in which their trauma are impacting their experiences in the present day. I find that many of the things we struggle with can be related to traumas, difficulties, or other experiences in childhood that were less than ideal. I help my clients recognize the ways in which they are feeling "stuck" or are unhappy with how their life circumstances are. From there, I help my clients determine how they want to live their life and we collaboratively figure out what it takes to get there.

I am extensively trained in EMDR , TF-CBT (Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy), child-centered play therapy, and filial family therapy.
My specialties are school-aged children and adolescents and their families, and young adults, but I do trauma-focused therapy with all ages. My clinical interests include trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, and transitional stress, whether that be exploring or revealing sexuality and/or gender identity, developmental transitions, managing increasing expectations of early adulthood, or navigating life changes. I believe in the importance of sharing knowledge about the mind-body relationship of trauma, panic, anxiety, and depression, to help my clients understand what they have been experiencing and why, and how to move forward.

In addition to talk therapy, I use a variety of proven therapeutic approaches such as EMDR , EFT tapping, Flash technique, Brainspotting, CBT, and mindfulness.
Are you struggling with emotional and/or relationship issues and not sure how to deal with them? Seeking help is not easy and I recognize it takes courage to take that first step to reach out to a professional. For that reason, I use gentle, compassionate, and affirming methods to create a safe environment and work at a pace that is most comfortable to you. Sometimes it’s easy to talk about the issues and at other times, it feels too private or painful to reveal. When memories are too painful to share I can even work with them silently. I also incorporate many holistic approaches, honoring the mind, body and spirit connection.

I primarily use an AIR Network approach while also incorporating EMDR processing, ART, DBT skills teaching, prolonged exposure, all while using a client centered and solution focused approach.
I work primarily with adolescent and adult clients that have experienced various traumatic events in their lives. Often times individuals are unaware of the impact that these events have had and continue to have on their day to day lives. I work with individuals to help them learn more about what events are traumatic to them and increase their awareness of how those events continue to impact relationships, work performance, school performance, etc. I am dedicated to helping my clients identify their goals and teach them skills to reach these goals while learning how to navigate and manage life circumstances.

I often use EMDR and NLP which have techniques that use both sides of your brain to change better and faster than traditional "talk therapy".
Do you think change has to be hard or take a long time? Do you want more out of life? Are you wondering if you will ever be happy again? Do you want better quality relationships? Do you wish you could put a spark back into your marriage? Are you tired of trying and feeling hopeless? I take a no nonsense approach to therapy and use razor sharp precision to get to the core issues. I am highly skilled at helping clients remove the "porcupine quills" that hurt whenever a bad memory is triggered.

I have an extensive background in providing trauma informed care and I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR ).
The choice to make time for therapy can be difficult with all of life’s responsibilities. And when previous ways of coping begin to fall short, it can be helpful to have a supportive space to turn to. Therapy provides the opportunity for you to engage in exploration, feel your feelings, and process life experiences. I hope to have the opportunity to work collaboratively with you to support you in fostering meaningful change in your life, whatever that change may be.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
