Including
children
(4+), teenagers, and adults.
It takes courage to be seen during a time of difficulty and to seek out support in therapy. I strive to provide a safe, loving, non-judgmental environment in which growth can occur. Through therapy clients learn appropriate coping skills, learn new approaches for addressing their challenges, and learn how to communicate their thoughts and feelings. I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities from play and art to help young
children
communicate what they may struggle to do verbally, to cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and narrative therapy for older clients.

I look forward to talking with you more and helping you to explore new ways to relate with your partner,
children
, parents, siblings, friends, and coworkers.
Relationships can be so stressful. Finding common ground on parenting or values/beliefs at times feels impossible. A negative spiral begins where you don’t talk as much…you shut down, you yell, or maybe you just give up and walk away. You might begin to feel anxious or depressed and don’t know what else you can do to make this better for you and your family. Learning to communicate effectively and finding balance in your relationship can take work. I can help you and/or your partner learn how to improve communication, balance home/work responsibilities, and strengthen parenting strategies.

I believe that the ideal client is an individual who is motivated towards working towards improving their mood, situation, or life in the goals they choose. As a marriage and family therapist, I believe I'm best suited for working with couples and families. However, a significant amount of my nearly fourteen years of clinical experience has been working
children
and adolescents. I also enjoy working with those who are oppositional, anxious, depressed, have experienced trauma, are seeking parenting skills, or are looking for emotional management and coping strategies.

I specialize in working with
children
, adolescents, and adults and am able to connect in a way that helps them feel safe and comfortable.
In my work at Innovative Psychological Consultants I know that finding the right connection and fit is one of the most important things in therapy and counseling. I work hard to understand the individual needs of each client. Many people simply need a safe place to process and bounce around ideas. Others are looking for specific tools to help move them in a certain direction. We work together to figure out what will be best for you and how to get there.

I am extensively trained in EMDR, TF-CBT (Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy),
child
-centered play therapy, and filial family therapy.
My specialties are school-aged
children
and adolescents and their families, and young adults, but I do trauma-focused therapy with all ages. My clinical interests include trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, and transitional stress, whether that be exploring or revealing sexuality and/or gender identity, developmental transitions, managing increasing expectations of early adulthood, or navigating life changes. I believe in the importance of sharing knowledge about the mind-body relationship of trauma, panic, anxiety, and depression, to help my clients understand what they have been experiencing and why, and how to move forward.

I support you--an adult, a teen, or the
child
you love--overcome the suffering associated with anxiety, depression, grief, ADHD, poor self-regulation, anger management, a negative self-image, lack of motivation, the effect of unresolved past experiences, challenging transitions, living and aging well with or without serious health concerns, and the frustration and hopelessness parents, partners, and
children
of all ages often feel communicating in families with entrenched in high conflict, power-over relationship patterns. I facilitate your path toward a more positive future with trauma sensitive evidence based practices.

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
