People say you are a good person with a perfect life, yet you don't feel like it. People say it will work out, yet nothing changes. Some people even say you should wait it out, pray it off, or let it be, yet your heart is not letting you forget about it. In the end, you feel alone. You may feel afraid or ashamed to even talk about it with people close to you. You wonder if others will truly understand you and your situation. You struggle to open up because you do not want to be judged. And I get it.

I've helped many people work through difficult challenges and issues they're facing and would like to help you too. I have a very straight forward, assertive and somewhat irreverent communication style. We work hard, bravely dig as deep as we need to and have some belly laughs along the way. My clients appreciate how real and raw it can get, they feel free to share the good, bad and the ugly. If you're ready to be a good student I am a good teacher, let's roll up our sleeves?!

Are you considering making a change to your substance use or problem behavior? I specialize in working with clients who either don't want to pursue the typical rehab approach or who have tried it and want something different. Many clients come to me because they're looking for an alternative to typical treatment. I provide guidance to clients as they change their lives while still being able to manage responsibilities at home and work. Most of my clients are working professionals who are looking to make lasting change. I frequently work with couples & families as they navigate problems related to disconnection or problem behavior.

While we are capable of managing a lot, sometimes we may feel too sad, too scared, too tired, or too lonely. This can make having a relationship, family, school, work, or just living that much more overwhelming. Life is also full of surprises and you might be going through changes that feel too daunting or even devastating. You might have struggled for a long time or just recently. Despite your best effort, you still feel quite stuck, helpless, confused, or frustrated. You might even know what you need or want to do differently, but not so sure about where or how to start. This is a great start and I am so glad we found each other.

Some people find themselves feeling stuck with certain thoughts and feelings. Others find themselves repeating behaviors that lead to unproductive and problematic situations in their life. Therapy is a process where these concerns can be discussed and worked through from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My therapeutic approach is to assist you in reaching your personal or relationship goals with more effective ways of being. The adolescents and adults I work with are understood as individuals that have their own unique attitudes, beliefs, and experiences.

My specialties are adolescents, trauma, ADHD, OCD, and eating disorders.
Although good therapy is serious business it does not have to be grim! I'm very creative and flexible in my approach and view the therapeutic process as a series of hypotheses we explore together. I offer warmth, humor, and sharp analysis of the big picture as well as the details to help you identify what's holding you back and how to move forward differently in a clear, practicable way. In my office we will laugh a lot but we will also work very hard. More than just a psychological travel agent I strive to be a tour guide leader. Your journey is not my journey but I walk with you, in the muck with you, as you determine where to go.

I have additional training and certifications in eating disorders.
I am an inclusive therapist specializing in both CBT and SFBT, which allows us to quickly get to the heart of your concerns. I am accepting new clients at this time and offer both office appointments or telehealth sessions. I am very easy to talk to and work outside of regular business hours during the week. Most of the clients I see are women or young adults dealing with trauma, low self-esteem, eating or identify issues, and anxiety. My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that the human spirit is capable of hope, love, and resilience. Impermanence is a fact of life, and what matters is how we are able to cope with it.

I have 10 years of experience working with people struggling with disordered eating, anxiety, depression, trauma & all the different issues people face from age 12 and up.
I have found teaching DBT skills (dialectical behavior therapy) is helpful for those seeking new coping skills and use EMDR when working through trauma with someone. Both of these modes have been beneficial for many clients that I have worked with. I am a Christian and will integrate faith into therapy if it is welcomed.

Therapy doesn't have to start with answers—it can start with curiosity. Whether you're feeling disconnected from yourself, overwhelmed by expectations, questioning who you are or what you want, or you identify as a people-pleaser, perfectionist, or "just an anxious person," you deserve a space to slow down. Together, we'll explore the patterns, relationships, and experiences that have shaped you while building awareness of the parts of yourself that are trying to protect you. Using a strengths-based, values-focused approach, we'll make space for self-compassion, authenticity, and choices that feel more aligned with who you are.

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
