Many times, there are underlying issues that are not addressed such as ADHD, OCD, trauma, or other issues.
We work with Neurodivergent folks guiding them with issues related to executive dysfunction IE: can't get started on a task, stay on track, or get things done. Research indicates that ADHD is underdiagnosed in women, and I personally suffered from anxiety and depression for years, only to find that these were merely symptoms of ADHD.

More than just a way to capture attention, the spelling of Inner Fōkus also carries a personal meaning to the founders. The name is a nod to the German heritage shared by both Dr. Lori and Dr. Patrick, since “fōkus” is the correct spelling of “focus” in German. Our heritage, culture, and environment can have great impacts in shaping who we are. Our name, Inner Fōkus, also serves as a prominent reminder of the importance to occasionally break from current patterns and try new things.

My main inspiration comes from working with clients to create change and overall live a more effective life. I believe it is imperative to treat all areas of who we are as a person. I address mental health concerns but also I address physical and spiritual health. Often one or all of these areas are deficient for an individual leading to an overall decrease in wellness. Clinically my approach is from a cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy perspective. From these frameworks we can identify maladaptive behavior cycles and change them to skillful approaches bringing progression in your life.

Founded in 2011, Catalyst Mental Health was started with the goal of serving clients with mental health issues and concerns that don't fit easily into any single box: clients who either have multiple issues occurring simultaneously or who have complex conditions that don't align well with traditional diagnostic definitions. This includes individuals with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, chemical dependency issues, sexual and gender identity issues, compulsive behavior, autism spectrum disorders, attention or focusing problems, relationship or marital conflict, and much more. Catalyst Mental Health is also proud supporter and ally of the LGBT community.

Our histories of trauma, suicidal thoughts, OCD, eating disorders, or other do not have to be the blueprint for how you move forward.
In our first session together, we'll spend time going at your pace on getting to know a bit about one another and what you are hoping for. It's my goal to have you ending the first session with a renewed sense of hope and having someone understand what this has been like for you.

I am a firm believer in thorough evaluation early on in the therapy process. I frequently use my expertise in psychological testing to assist in this diagnostic process to ensure the most effective and appropriate treatments are used. While the human condition allows for great challenges and pain, it also allows for miraculous opportunities for healing and growth. Therapy is a collaborative relationship. I focus treatment on a combination of providing information, skill building, and evidence based treatments. Being tech-interested also helps me connect with younger clients, and bridge the gap of resistance to change or getting help.

I consider therapy to be a sacred space in which we can learn how to trust and love ourselves, leading us to healthier relationships. It takes a lot of courage to examine our lives in an honest way and I respect those willing to do the work. Therapy can feel vulnerable and so it is important you feel safe in the process. My focus is to make sure you feel heard and understood. I like to share some laughter in the sessions as well. It is good to not take ourselves and life too seriously. We are all just trying to figure it out.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
