Well was created with the purpose of helping individuals, couples, and families grow independently and as a whole.  We realize that life has its challenges and can sometimes feel overwhelming and unrelenting, which may leave us feeling hopeless.  Other times life may have us feeling stuck and needing someone to walk along side us as we seek understanding.

I am always grateful for the opportunity to share in the stories of people’s lives and help them identify the goals they wish to achieve to create the next chapters of their lives. I love working with people across all ages who are motivated to do introspection and identify new ways to think about themselves and their future. I believe our sense of belonging and connectedness affects the stories we live by.

More than just a way to capture attention, the spelling of Inner Fōkus also carries a personal meaning to the founders. The name is a nod to the German heritage shared by both Dr. Lori and Dr. Patrick, since “fōkus” is the correct spelling of “focus” in German. Our heritage, culture, and environment can have great impacts in shaping who we are. Our name, Inner Fōkus, also serves as a prominent reminder of the importance to occasionally break from current patterns and try new things.

I’m a trauma-focused therapist who helps people heal from experiences that continue to feel present long after they’ve passed, both relational and experiential. Many clients I work with feel stuck—caught in patterns of anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional reactivity that don’t fully make sense. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and paced to your readiness, with a strong focus on creating safety. I use EMDR, CBT, DBT, and IFS to address symptoms rooted in trauma or mental health challenges, with the goal of helping you feel more stable, connected to yourself, and in control of your life.

You want a healthy, fun relationship, with a sense of safety and security, with healthy boundaries, connection, and where you can be yourself. But your relationship feels like it is falling apart, or at the very least it feels like there are times it is a struggle and hurtful. There are often misunderstandings and you feel a gulf between you. You don't want to feel like roommates or snap at one another, and long for connection that feels happy and enjoyable. You're hoping that in therapy you two can learn to share thoughts, needs and ideas in a way that unites you instead of turning into a fight or disagreement.

At Up North Therapy, I believe healing works best when people feel truly seen, heard, and safe to be themselves. Life up here can be quiet and beautiful—but it can also be isolating, overwhelming, and heavy in ways that are easy to carry alone for too long. I strive to offer a calm, supportive environment where clients can explore their experiences without judgment. Together, we focus on building insight, emotional regulation, and confidence, while honoring your history and what has helped you survive so far. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself or your child, my goal is to help you feel more grounded and connected.

You’re a woman in transition. Something in your life has shifted through divorce, changing family roles, children growing, friendships evolving, or years of tending to everyone else finally catching up with you. There’s a quiet inner knowing asking for more care, more truth, more space. You long to feel grounded, at home in your body, and aligned with who you really are. You’re ready to soften old stories, listen inward, and come back to yourself with trust, compassion, and a deeper sense of peace.

I have completed Gottman Method Couples Therapy Level I training.
I work with individuals to address sexual health related issues that may be getting in the way of a healthy and satisfying sex life. I help couples and individuals to improve overall sexual health and connectedness, while also working to improve overall relationship satisfaction and communication. Issues may include: sexual pain, desire discrepancies, orgasm problems, discomfort with your body image, sexual boredom, etc. I recognize that change can be difficult and seek to provide the support you need to achieve your goals by listening to you, helping to identify the outcome you desire, and motivating you to reach your goals.

It’s no mistake that you have found yourself here… looking for help… support… guidance… something to get you out of stuckness… the “yuk”. You’re losing sleep at night, distracted during the day and just can’t seem to get it together. You’re consumed by sadness, fear, guilt and/or shame, feeling like an unmade bed … day after day after day. Maybe you’ve tried a thing or two… or maybe you think you have tried it all, and you’re still not where you want to be. What if I told you that there is a different path? A different approach to help you truly heal and live the life you want to live?

Gottman Method Therapists
How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
