I am Rachael and I am an LPCC in Minnesota. I join with clients to support their goals of improving relationships, managing mood, improving their self-worth, gaining new perspectives, working through grief, establishing new and effective coping skills, identifying and living within their values, beliefs, and principles, and resolving the impact from unaddressed traumas. In our first few sessions, you can expect me to provide unconditional positive regard, make you the focus, and learn specifically about what your goals for therapy are.

Being a Mom is hard! With the daily tasks of getting everyone out the door, planning meals, and taking care of everyone else's needs but your own. Have you ever felt that the workloads of life are not balanced? Felt this sense of resentment towards your spouse and children because they don’t appreciate you? Often women are defaulted to the family CEO, balancing, anticipating, planning, and preparing invisible, but necessary household tasks. The inequitable distribution of invisible labor takes a toll on our relationships with ourselves as well as our relationships with our partners and children.

You're exhausted. Constantly putting out emotional fires. Thoughts of never "good enough," churn through your mind. You avoid these thoughts and emotions with substances, distractions, or just plain, "pushing them down." You learned these survival strategies early in life, but now, it feels impossible to imagine another way. While most of us know we want to feel differently, it's pretty common that we can't put a finger on exactly what we need to change. Therapy will start with a thorough evaluation of your current life circumstances and how your symptoms and coping skills have worked in the past.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in your head, or frustrated in your relationships, you’re not alone. Many of the adults I work with are busy parents and professionals who carry a lot of responsibility and pressure. On the outside, things may look fine. Internally, it feels heavier than it should, and hard to slow down or make sense of what you’re feeling.

Investing in yourself is crucial. Life's busyness often leads to neglecting our personal growth. You may have prioritized others to the point of depleting your own reserves. When inevitable issues arise, it can feel overwhelming. However, it doesn't need to be this way. Focusing on self-improvement can actually make you more present for those you care about. Therapy is a commitment to invest time, energy, and resources into bettering your life, moving you out of constant crisis mode. By working together, you'll find that while daily demands remain the same, your ability to handle them improves, reducing life's stress.

I love working with clients who are curious about mental health and who are ready to make changes in their lives. I greatly enjoy working with adolescents and young adults who are in the midst of self-discovery. I have worked with clients with many different backgrounds, including those with court-involvement. I strongly believe in the capacity for people to heal and change and I believe in treating clients with respect and holding them in unconditional positive regard.

No one seems to understand you. Your irritability has reached a zenith, sure, but you are peri/menopausal and your tolerance for bullshit has been depleting just as fast as your estrogen, causing you to want to escape. What looks to others like running away, could be for you an internal reckoning. A re-prioritization, with yourself as the focal point, after a lifetime of focusing on others.

The more-than-human world has never stopped loving you. You are the one who knows what hurts, what longs to grow, and what you’re ready to face. In our work together, you choose the direction. "Suppose we did our work like the snow, quietly, quietly. Leaving nothing out." -Wendell Berry Before becoming a therapist, I worked in healthcare for a decade. I am uniquely situated to understand and work with both seekers and providers of medical care. I go by the name: Nomi.

I enjoy working with many types of people. Whether they're new to therapy, have seen someone before, or maybe even had a bad therapeutic experience elsewhere, I work hard to assist people in reaching their goals. It can be difficult for some clients to identify what they want to change, and benefit from exploring options.

I focus on building a strong foundational relationship with clients, collaboratively developing self-awareness, mood-stabilizing skills and communication tools that allow for the safe reprocessing of difficult experiences and emotions. I work with people who have experienced a range of challenges, from difficulties with life adjustments to complicated trauma and loss. It is important to me that clients understand that difficult and traumatic experiences can arise from a seemingly “normal” childhood or life event. Therapeutic support and guidance for any destabilizing event or emotion is a valuable resource.

I work collaboratively with my clients to define and explore the things they want to change. Most of my clients come to therapy because something in their lives isn't working anymore. They want to let go of old habits and deepen their sense of well-being. I help my clients build skills that create the conditions for growth. These skills, practiced over time, allow my clients to connect more deeply with themselves and others, and move more purposefully into the lives they choose. My goal is to facilitate my clients' movement beyond symptom relief to real and lasting change.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
