I began working as a therapist in a Community Health Center seeing individuals, couples and families with minor to severe mental health issues, many suffering from past trauma. This led me to seek more education, supervision and training to help treat those reporting trauma and dissociative symptoms. Now, I mainly work with individuals dealing with complex trauma and dissociative disorders, though I still see some couples/families where one member is dealing with trauma-related dissociative symptoms. I work collaboratively, partnering with people to help resolve lingering past and current issues to achieve their stated goals.

I find a great deal of professional joy in seeing others grow to embrace and integrate the best parts of themselves. I most enjoy working with someone who endeavors to explore the part of themselves that has gone unappreciated or untended and which they want to grow. So often we are molded into a person by our environment and experiences that, at times, can be difficult to recognize. I am eager to support you in exploring this best version of yourself!

Mental health care is a part of chronic healthcare and asking for help can be the hardest place to start. Mental health is a struggle that we all deal with in our own way, sometimes we need guidance and encouragement. I believe a therapist's role is to support individuals in their efforts to cope and adapt on their own. Through the journey of therapy, I want to be someone who can point out patterns that may be hindering you from reaching your fullest potential.

I am passionate about helping you heal & grow. I provide a comfortable, non-judgmental & supportive atmosphere where you can process difficult emotions, gain awareness of what keeps you in suffering, & integrate newfound insights to bring relief. I am sensitive to the ways your past experiences & future anxieties impact your present. When traumatic events or unexpressed feelings are left unattended we can become identified with these states and depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship problems and self-sabotage can arise. It can be difficult to make changes & overcome obstacles without support, new tools or insight.

Through connections we learn about ourselves, others and our world. Sometimes, safe connections and acceptance have been missing in our lives due to neurodivergence, abuse or neglect. We may walk through life feeling like outsiders struggling to understand the world and ourselves and to finally feel that we are “good enough.” In therapy, I work to provide a safe place where you can take your mask off and be authentically yourself. I offer collaborative, nonjudgmental support while exploring your personal strengths and challenges. I use humor, empathy and evidence-based therapy models. I am trained in EMDR, level 2 for trauma care.

I believe we are born as connected and whole human beings but through experiences in life, we can become disconnected both from our authentic self and others, leading to emotional distress, unhelpful thought patterns and behavioral difficulties. By creating a safe and supportive space, I help clients courageously navigate the blocks in their life and reconnect to their innate wisdom so that they can live a full, meaningful life. I value social justice and holistic wellness and use a collaborative, client-centered approach to meet you where you are at and support your unique identity and journey.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
