Area of improvements may include addressing: medical or chronic health condition, depression , anxiety, panic attacks, stress, irritability and anger, relational issues, peer/relational issues and increasing coping skills.
Mental health care is a part of chronic healthcare and asking for help can be the hardest place to start. Mental health is a struggle that we all deal with in our own way, sometimes we need guidance and encouragement. I believe a therapist's role is to support individuals in their efforts to cope and adapt on their own. Through the journey of therapy, I want to be someone who can point out patterns that may be hindering you from reaching your fullest potential.

I have experience working with issues related to anxiety, depression , trauma, family/relationship conflict, life transitions, and ADHD.
As humans we are constantly trying to build connection with others and make meaning of the things going on around us. Sometimes that can be difficult, have unexpected challenges, or feel overwhelming. I work with clients to explore/understand life's challenges and/or build deeper and more genuine connections. I also work with them to improve their overall psychological, emotional and physical health. My goal is always to help clients build confidence in their ability to cope with challenges on their own. I believe in creating a safe therapeutic environment that fosters vulnerability, acceptance, hope and connection.

I am passionate about helping you heal & grow. I provide a comfortable, non-judgmental & supportive atmosphere where you can process difficult emotions, gain awareness of what keeps you in suffering, & integrate newfound insights to bring relief. I am sensitive to the ways your past experiences & future anxieties impact your present. When traumatic events or unexpressed feelings are left unattended we can become identified with these states and depression , anxiety, substance abuse, relationship problems and self-sabotage can arise. It can be difficult to make changes & overcome obstacles without support, new tools or insight.

Are you experiencing anxiety and / or depression ? You may be experiencing shyness associated with friends, family, work, and social interactions. You may feel sad more often than not, lonely, and experiencing negative thoughts about yourself. Relationships have been hard to maintain due to feeling disconnected from others, having low energy, and finding that social interactions zap your energy. You're questioning your ability to complete routine tasks and enjoy life. You may be concerned that if you don't do something about these feelings, things can get worse, but they do not have to.

I primarily work with people experiencing anxiety, depression , and trauma.
Deciding to seek therapy can stir up all kinds of emotions. Maybe it’s been a long time coming, perhaps the thing you used to do to get by isn’t working anymore, or maybe life recently threw you a difficult curve ball. Either way, it can feel isolating trying to figure it out alone. Friends and family can be helpful, though sometimes you just need a safe space of your own to regroup and a safe person to walk with you while you do the hard work.

I am a licensed psychotherapist with a concentration in trauma. I work with issues unique to people suffering the effects of complex trauma, complex childhood trauma and single incident trauma. As I have worked extensively with trauma, I have come to understand complications of trauma often show up in our lives as anxiety, depression , and relational problems. I work individually with clients within their unique family systems. I include and invite the complexity and dignity of unconventional relationship structures and affirm the challenges and joys they provide.

My approach with each client is to meet them where they are. We work together on a shared journey of discovery and problem-solving. I believe I can help people manage their lives more effectively. I particularly enjoy working with clients who struggle with who they are or what they want from life. They might feel depressed , anxious or ineffective. Many come from neglectful or abusive families. They may be newly sober or in another recovery program, but need additional help building a life.

I have worked extensively with individuals struggling with depression , anxiety, as well as major life changes.
I find a great deal of professional joy in seeing others grow to embrace and integrate the best parts of themselves. I most enjoy working with someone who endeavors to explore the part of themselves that has gone unappreciated or untended and which they want to grow. So often we are molded into a person by our environment and experiences that, at times, can be difficult to recognize. I am eager to support you in exploring this best version of yourself!

A strong therapeutic relationship can support your goals to improve relationships, learn to be regulated and live a more fulfilled life. I do this by encouraging open communication and healthy boundaries, providing psychoeducational support, processing emotional issues and trauma and teaching the art and science of mindfulness. I provide psychotherapy to adolescents and adults who may be experiencing behavioral and emotional issues, depression , anxiety, trauma and relational issues. I will bring intensity and humor to the dynamic therapeutic relationship. Relationships are important, perhaps more now than ever!

I often work specifically with stress, relationship problems, depression , anxiety, low self-esteem, major life changes, and many other issues.
The areas of our lives are intricately connected. While problems often have ripple effects, so can solutions. I have been working as a therapist for 19+ years in several types of settings and have logged countless hours with individuals and families. I believe that people often have difficult circumstances that bring them to my office, but introspection and examination of family dynamics can be interesting and enjoyable too.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
