My special areas of interest include trauma, adult child healing, low self-esteem, codependency, aging parent issues, anxiety, and female empowerment.
Stephen Porges said, “If you want to improve the world, start by making people feel safer.” This is my guiding principle of therapy. I create a safe, welcoming space for clients to engage in self-exploration, process problems and issues, and heal the wounds of life. My approach is gentle, nurturing, supportive, and nonjudgmental. I believe you have all the wisdom you need within you; you just haven’t been able to access it yet. I enjoy working with older children, adolescents, adults, and families.

I enjoy working with relational problems centered on attachment and codependency, complex and childhood trauma, late-diagnosed ADHD or those suspecting ADHD, and overall improving the relationship to emotions to better navigate life's ups and downs.
Finding yourself stuck in patterns and cycles that you struggle to get out of, let alone have hope for to change? These patterns might be a well-rehearsed dance with another person or even a full cast of characters, or your internal world rippling outward into your life. By increasing awareness and understanding of what's within you and of the dynamics within your relationships, you can learn to disengage from the ineffective and instead move intentionally toward a more functional, fulfilling way of being.

I help people work with what’s on the surface and what’s below, what’s felt inside as well as what’s experienced outside, in life and with others. Clients who seek my care might be looking for support with challenging relationships, life changes, grief, or difficult situations. Clients might also need help with purpose and meaning, navigating anxiety, depression, overwhelm, or just feeling stuck. I provide a compassionate and grounded space to explore what’s happening in life, make sense of things, and move toward something better.

People come to therapy for many different reasons: maybe you find yourself facing a life transition, experiencing a recent loss, maybe you are engaging in the same conflict over and over again with your partner or you want to better understand a historically difficult relationship with your body…No matter your inspiration for seeking a therapist, I feel honored to hold safe, warm, nonjudgmental space for you as you bravely navigate the waters of your life.

I have immediate openings in-person and via telehealth, with daytime and limited evening availability. I work with adolescents (10+) and adults navigating their way through challenges with anxiety, OCD, life-stressors, perfectionism, ADHD, relational, and similar concerns. Perhaps anxiety is making life feel harder than it "should", perfectionism is keeping you in a cycle of self-criticism, or relationship dynamics continue to impact you in ways you can't seem to shake. I provide a supportive and open space, where we work together to identify unhelpful patterns, build tools that actually work, and make meaningful, lasting changes.

Nikhat (knee-cot) has a super positive vibe about her. She’s one of those people that lifts people’s spirits simply by her being in their orbit. Honestly, she’s pretty dang awesome. Have you ever met someone who just radiates positivity? That’s Nikhat. She’s just one of those people that everyone likes. And, let us tell you why. First, she is very engaged with her clients, and what she puts her mind to. She’s not a therapist who will just sit there, nod her head, and say “uh-huh”. Instead, she get’s right into the thick of things with her clients.

Do you want to feel better about yourself, feel more secure in your relationships, and learn to better tolerate uncertainty and discomfort? Life brings challenges and uncertainty that may leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and those around us. I believe therapy can help in facing, addressing, and overcoming the challenges that we’re presented with. I help others with challenges relevant to addiction, anxiety, relationship struggles, self-esteem concerns, and trauma. I currently work with folks ages 15 and up.

Codependency Therapists
What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
