A strong therapeutic relationship can support your goals to improve relationships, learn to be regulated and live a more fulfilled life. I do this by encouraging open communication and healthy boundaries, providing psychoeducational support, processing emotional issues and trauma and teaching the art and science of mindfulness. I provide psychotherapy to adolescents and adults who may be experiencing behavioral and emotional issues, depression,
anxiety
, trauma and relational issues. I will bring intensity and humor to the dynamic therapeutic relationship. Relationships are important, perhaps more now than ever!

If you are noticing increased sadness, loneliness,
anxiety
, or challenges this may be the time for additional therapeutic support. Mental health is a struggle that we all deal with in our own way, sometimes we need guidance and encouragement. I believe a therapist's role is to support individuals in their efforts to cope and adapt on their own. Through the journey of therapy, I want to be someone who can point out patterns that may be hindering you from reaching your fullest potential.

I primarily work with people experiencing
anxiety
, depression, and trauma.
Deciding to seek therapy can stir up all kinds of emotions. Maybe it’s been a long time coming, perhaps the thing you used to do to get by isn’t working anymore, or maybe life recently threw you a difficult curve ball. Either way, it can feel isolating trying to figure it out alone. Friends and family can be helpful, though sometimes you just need a safe space of your own to regroup and a safe person to walk with you while you do the hard work.

My education, training and clinical experience has focused on attachment, trauma & abuse (child & adult), parenting, depression,
anxiety
, behavioral issues and grief/loss.
In today's world, many of us feel bombarded by increasing demands, fewer resources and interactions that leave us feeling unfulfilled. The pressures placed upon us by society and ourselves can become a heavy burden to carry alone. I provide a relationship and place of understanding, respect and learning to help you better manage your feelings and thoughts. When working with adults, my approach is to explore together the areas in life that feel stuck, hopeless or painful and gain understanding how to move in a direction that is more fulfilling and helpful.

Life can be hard. You may worry too much. Maybe you have difficulty finding the energy to do what you need to do. Or saying things that you regret later. Maybe you have trouble concentrating and focusing. And sometimes the hopes and dreams you have for the future don't always turn out the way you expected. When these things happen, you may forget how to draw on your strengths and capabilities to make things different for yourself. I can help you rediscover strengths as well as develop new, effective strategies for bringing back your joy for living and having deeper, more meaningful relationships.

anxiety
, depression, trauma, family/relationship conflict, life transitions, and ADHD.
As humans we are constantly trying to build connection with others and make meaning of the things going on around us. Sometimes that can be difficult, have unexpected challenges, or feel overwhelming. I work with clients to explore/understand life's challenges and/or build deeper and more genuine connections. I also work with them to improve their overall psychological, emotional and physical health. My goal is always to help clients build confidence in their ability to cope with challenges on their own. I believe in creating a safe therapeutic environment that fosters vulnerability, acceptance, hope and connection.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
