While much of my work is with children and adolescents, I also support adults, including caregivers of kids with significant mental health needs, and LGBTQ2S+ identifying individuals.
Being a kid, a teen, or even a parent can feel overwhelming, and you don’t have to go through it alone. Hi, I’m Rachael! I specialize in working with kids and adolescents (ages 8–18), as well as their families and caregivers. Many of the young people I work with are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, stress, or big life changes. My goal is to meet clients where they’re at, make therapy approachable (even for those who may have had a hard time with it before) and collaborate on practical strategies that can be used in day-to-day life.

You might be feeling emotionally drained—like you’re holding everything together on the outside while struggling to stay grounded on the inside. Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself or your relationships, or like the coping strategies that used to work just aren’t anymore. You want to feel more present, more steady, more like yourself again—but you’re not sure how to get there on your own. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, reconnect, and begin to feel more supported in your inner world. I work with teens and adults navigating grief, loss, and life transitions, and I bring a warm, relational approach to each session.

It is a priority that you feel safe & in control of your therapy, I am a note minimalist & prioritize trust. Over the course of our first three sessions, I will be asking a myriad of questions designed to help us determine a diagnosis & explore your needs. The fourth visit is a treatment planning session where we will work together to set quantitative goals. Your thoughts are valid.. Ask me anything.

I enjoy working with clients navigating pregnancy/parenthood and other life transitions. I know that this stage of life can be filled with excitement, anxiety, and so many other emotions. When we are faced with change or transitions in life, it can stir things up and make it challenging to navigate. This can be especially confusing when the change is wanted or exciting, like becoming a parent or bringing another child into the home. My goal is to meet you where you are and work together to foster growth and change.

As adults, they often carry the weight of hyper-independence, people-pleasing, reactivity, or self-doubt.
You deserve relationships that feel safe, connected, and secure—and a life that reflects your values and authentic self. I’m a pre-licensed therapist and addiction counselor specializing in trauma recovery, addiction, chronic anger, and the lasting impact of emotionally neglectful or immature caregivers. I work with individuals, couples, and families ready to break free from painful patterns, deepen self-awareness, and build healthier, more fulfilling ways of relating to themselves and others.

I’m a trauma-informed therapist who works with adults navigating anxiety, trauma histories, personality disorders, and the hidden weight of living in survival mode for too long.
In our first session, the focus is on creating a safe, steady space where you can talk openly without judgment or pressure. We move at your pace—nothing is rushed, nothing is forced, and you never have to share more than you’re ready for. I explain confidentiality clearly so you know exactly how your information is protected and where the boundaries are.

Adult (18 and over) Individuals (Unfortunately, I do NOT currently work with couples).
My goal as a therapist is to help clients face both the real and perceived challenges in their lives with clarity, support, and renewed strength. I approach each person as a unique human being with their own story, strengths, and struggles, and I see therapy as a collaborative process of moving forward together. I work in a way that is direct and pragmatic, drawing on psychoeducation and clinical experience to give clients new ways of seeing, understanding, and coping with life’s difficulties. At the same time, my style is deeply connection-based, rooted in empathy and authenticity, with room for levity when appropriate.

Today, I work with children, adolescents & adults with symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, grief & loss, medical challenges and traumas and people having difficulty coping with life’s stressors.
I use Play Therapy as a way to help younger children use toys as words to express and process their concerns and frustrations. With others I use process-oriented talk therapy that builds self-understanding and better coping skills. I’m Master trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and use this with many clients to address different needs.

My ideal clients are adolescents and adults who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck, and are ready to better understand themselves and create meaningful change.
Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from trying to manage everything on their own. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, or challenges with eating and body image, therapy can be a place to slow down, feel understood, and begin making meaningful changes. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe being themselves. My approach is collaborative and practical — together we explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, build coping strategies that actually fit your life, and work toward goals that matter to you.

I work with a variety of concerns related to finding one's way through life. Effective therapeutic relationships are where mutually agreed upon goals are worked toward. Research suggests that utilizing treatment approaches that are consistent with personal beliefs is effective. Thus, I gather information about what you think you need and determine whether I can offer appropriate care. If necessary, I will provide a referral to a more appropriate provider or to supplementary care. I see clients on Tuesdays and am a full time faculty member at the U. of St. Thomas.

I come from a generalist social work background which has provided me with a strong foundation to be adaptable and creative within the helping journey. I tend to at least attempt to work with any population while also prioritizing that I too am a learner in the client/s journey. Relationship building is foundational to any success with formalized models of treatment, and I hope to be able to demonstrate with you on your journey. I am relationship based first and foremost which includes the first initial contact and intake process. Taking our time and allowing for you to share and tell your story is essential in healing and growing.

My ideal clients are couples and families feeling stuck in patterns of conflict, disconnection, or emotional shutdown. They’re often navigating blended family dynamics, parenting challenges, or trust ruptures. They want tools to communicate better, rebuild emotional safety, and feel more seen and understood. Most of all, they want peace at home and relationships that feel secure, respectful, and connected.

FAQ - About Adult Counseling
Why should adults see a therapist?
Adults may benefit from therapy for a wide range of reasons—whether it’s managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition like anxiety or depression, navigating life transitions, coping with grief or trauma, or simply seeking support during a challenging life period. Many adults find that therapy helps them build healthier coping skills and better process their emotions, which may lead to better relationships and reduced stress. It’s important to note that, unlike psychiatrists or primary care physicians, therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medication. However, they will often work alongside prescribing clinicians to ensure coordinated care and can provide behavioral therapy as an important addition to psychiatric medication. Mental health concerns can look different in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence, so finding a therapist with expertise working with adult clients is important. Conditions like major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for instance, may present or resurface differently in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence. Adult-specific stressors, such as job strain, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, financial stress, or identity transitions, can also influence the onset and type of symptoms an individual experiences. Adult-focused therapists, therefore, are trained to understand these complexities and tailor care accordingly.

How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
When seeking care, it’s important to understand a therapist’s treatment specialties and their overall approach to treatment . Some therapists focus on common adult conditions like anxiety or depression, while others specialize in areas such as trauma, substance use disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s also important to consider a therapist’s training when seeking care. Therapists hold various licenses depending on their training and state requirements. Common therapy credentials include Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs), Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs). Psychologists (PhD or PsyD) receive additional doctoral-level training and may focus on assessments or more specialized therapeutic approaches. All of these professionals can provide talk therapy but do not prescribe medication. When searching for a therapist, consider their credentials and training background to ensure a good fit.

How do I find a therapist who sees adults?
Psychology Today’s online directory allows you to search specifically for therapists who work with adults. Each provider profile includes key information such as clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, licensure, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken, and session fees. Reviewing these details can help you determine whether a particular provider aligns with your needs and can indicate whether they are a good match for adult clients.
